Hookes Haven LLC Very private rental cottage on Penobscot Bay, Castine Maine. Weekly rentals. Sleeps 6-8, has all amenities. lovely sunset views, miles of cobble beaches.

This cabin is our family getaway in Maine, and we invite you to share it with us. Built in 2004-2006 by many friends and relations, it sits on the east shore of Penobscot Bay, about 6 hours from Vershire VT and Amherst MA. Downstairs is kitchen/living/dining, full bath, outdoor shower, two covered porches, and two beds including the "sun bay." Upstairs is the queen bed in the master bedroom, anoth

er queen bed in the tiny NW room (our favorite) a loft off the NW room, two other beds under the eaves, the "writers garret" with inspirational view, and a half -bath. Immediate attractions are the very private sand/cobble beach for strolling swimming and beach fires, hammocks to rest in, canoe to paddle, and woodstove and books to curl up with on rainy days. Right from the top of the driveway are numerous road biking possibilities, with Deer Isle and Blue Hill reachable in a long day.

3 miles away is the historic village of Castine, http://castine.me.us, founded 1613, site of the United States' worst naval defeat, with numerous shops, restaurants, boat tours, sea kayak rentals, museums and lovely old architecture. And within an hours drive is Blue Hill with its endless blueberries, Deer Isle with its sea kayaking, and Acadia National Park with its spectacular mountain and coast scenery, carriage roads for biking, and wonderful rocky trails. Rental is by the week, Saturday-Saturday, from mid-June to late October. See posts for current availability

Multiple adjacent weeks booked together, deduct $70 cleaning fee. Partial/pro-rated weeks available. Non-roaming pets welcome, no smoking. Cell phones work well, no land line, no internet (yet...) We'd love to have you give it a try!

Hookes Haven Rentals for 2024!

Dear current, past and future fans of Hookes' Haven,

We've finally settled family dates and are launching our 2024 rental reservations.

This year, by the end of April, we will have made a few improvements to the cabin:

• A 40 KW, Level 2 Car charger. We welcome and encourage your EV!

• An electric stove! We are saying good-bye to the old propane range with its noisy/perpetual gas pilot, and moving to the (nearly) zero carbon alternative…

• Expanded low -cost rental options! For better or worse, climate change is allowing us to get the plumbing going earlier and keep it on longer. Alas we can’t have guest use of the woodstove for insurance reasons, but we do have a couple electric heaters, and have found that they are rarely needed between early May and mid-October.

In this time of quarantine and sheltering-in-place, what better shelter could there be than Hookes' Haven? Right on the shore of the Penobscot Bay, down at the end of a dirt road, on a quiet beach with few people around, it is the perfect place for peace and rejuvenation in these times! The cabin is filling up for the summer, but we still have availability on these weeks:

August 22-29: $975 per week
August 29-September 5: $975 per week
September 5-12: $825 per week
September 12-18: $105 per night+ $100 cleaning fee (note this is not a full week)
September 21-October 3: $825 per week

These late summer and early fall days are the loveliest time to be in Maine....
Partial week rentals and stays later in October will be considered!

We are offering Hookes Haven for weekly rentals again.

New this year - in honor of Mom's passing, and with Cousin Bruce's magnificent help, we completely overhauled and combined bathroom and utility space, with indoors shower, heated tile floor, vanities, new washer dryer, linen storage. We are excited to share it with you!

Remaining the same - quiet shoreline, gorgeous sunsets, and the wind in the spruces.

We've had a rush of early interest and as result, basically all of high summer is taken. Here's what's left:
