Despite the weather, Castiners packed Emerson Hall for today’s Memorial Day ceremony, and several made it down to the waterfront for the wreath-tossing. 🇺🇸

On Memorial Day, we remember that this day is more than just a day off—it is a moment to reflect and give thanks for the people who have given their lives in service to our country and the preservation of our rights. In a time when political tensions are high and the climate of our nation feels fraught, it’s good to pause and remember—it’s not about winning or losing or being the strong man. Today is a day about remembering our past and praying in hope of a brighter future.

Castine is unique in that we always mark the start of the day with our ceremony—perhaps it’s our town’s maritime history that makes this tradition so important to us ⚓️❤️ Thank you to all the towns folk and visitors who joined today, and thank you to our servicemen and women ✨

Just as the spring blooms are popping up, so is our new early summer menu! 🌷🌱🌼 The Pentagöet Restaurant & Mister’s Pub are officially open for the season—Tuesday through Saturday 5-9pm, starting today! 🤩 We’ve taste-tested a whole new cocktail menu (what a life 😜), introduced some new menu items (beurre blanc lobster rolls, anyone? 🦞), and we’ve got more surprises up our sleeves. Mondays Shuck Oyster Nights resume on 6/22; Jazz Piano with .cleveland.3139 resumes on 6/26; and Jazz on the Porch returns on 6/30 🎶 Make sure to call in your reservations at 207-326-8616–we’re already sold out for Memorial Day Weekend! ✨

The Pentagöet will be hosting “Small Biz Social” on Monday, May 25, at 5:30pm 🍷🥂 Join us as we host local entrepreneurs and business owners and chat all things small biz in the state of Maine. As members of the Castine Merchants Association, we’re excited to offer Mister’s Pub as a swanky space for everyone to meet up and swap ideas. Introducing the Pentagöet Lobster Roll 🦞🦞🦞 It’s been requested for years, but we finally debuted our take on the Maine classic yesterday—a quarter pound of lobster dressed in our signature beurre blanc and served in a butter-toasted brioche split-top roll 🤤 It just might change your life… and you can try it for yourself starting this week! “Our kids are graduating!” 😭🤩🥰

When a couple of parents asked us why we were at the Graduation this weekend, we responded with that sentence… which got a lot of confused looks 😂 While and might not be our “real” children, they’ve become our adopted kids over the last several years. Working at the inn, playing showtunes as we clean, having dinner parties and movie viewings at the house in the frigid winters, playing with Mister, discussing life over a game of cards, and building up mountains of inside jokes (“are we putting this here for… fun?” “BORING” “But it’s my BIRTHDAY!”)—all these things have built us into a chosen family 💙⚓️

It was an honor to attend your graduation, all of you👨‍🎓👩‍🎓 You all lucked out with an inspiring commencement address from the Honorable Elaine Chao, and we were overwhelmed to see each of you cross the stage to receive your diplomas. We will miss you all dearly, but as long as we’re in Castine, you have a home here. Now, as they say in Mariner speak, “Fair Winds and Following Seas” 💙

The sun is shining and the flags are OUT! 🤩 It always brings us some opening joy to trot out our historic flags. It’s a common question for guests—what do those flags mean? The Pentagöet flies five historic banners to represent the five nations that have held this peninsula—the Wabanaki nation, the French kingdom, the Dutch, the British empire, and finally the American colonies 🇫🇷🇳🇱🇬🇧🇺🇸 For such a small Maine town, it seems like EVERYONE wanted to be here 😂

Opening Day 2026 is upon us! 🤩 The Pentagöet Inn first opened in 1894, the peninsula’s first “summer hotel,” under the stewardship of Lizzie Lovejoy Moon, and we are proud to carry on her legacy as we enter our 132nd season (or 5th for Matt & George). Step back INN time as you wander our halls, finding Castine ephemera and nostalgia at every turn. It’s a sign of the times 🤩 Thats right, It’s sign hanging day which means opening is right around the corner. It may be a gray day in Castine (and yes, George is precariously perched on slippery railings), but our sign is definitely glittering in gold ✨✨ Our first guests of the 2026 season arrive tomorrow! Have you booked your Castine escape yet? Key dates (like Fourth of July, Bastille Day, IGMA week, CHS House and Garden Show) are already filled, but there are plenty of other dates open for a lovely stay. Maine Maritime Graduation weekend is only ONE week away! 👩‍🎓👨‍🎓 As always, the inn is sold out for lodging with families coming to celebrate their grads, but we still have a few spaces left for dinner 🤩 The restaurant will be open Friday and Saturday (May 1 & 2) from 5-9pm, and you can scope out the menu in the carousel. Everyone is welcome to walk-in at the bar for some essential bubbly 🥂 We’re excited to kick-off our season by cheersing our Mariners, Class of 2026!
