In 1901 Joseph Courand participated in a campaign started by the Hamilton Brown Shoe Company, to give babies born in 1901 their first pair of shoes for free. Courand placed several ads in conjunction with the Hamilton Brown Company throughout the year.

One of our many Eastern Pheobes was captured on video in our natural area. Fun Fact: Eastern Phoebes winter farther north than most other flycatchers and are one of the earliest returning migrants in spring.

Our energetic American Redstart was utilizing some low branches to search for food in the afternoon heat. Fun Fact: the male American Redstart is coal-black with vivid orange patches on the sides, wings, and tail.

One of our many Yellow-throated Vireo was enjoying the natural area this week. Fun Fact: Male Yellow-throated Vireos also incubate eggs and brood young, taking shifts with the female Vireo throughout the day.
