Landmark Monarch Habitat Pond
The Landmark Monarch Habitat Pond is one of the most meaningful features of Monarch Wildlife Wayside Refuge & Park. Shaped in the form of a Monarch butterfly, it honors the refuge’s beginnings as a certified Monarch habitat and stands as a living symbol of renewal, protection, and the park’s founding purpose.

Rock‑lined edges trace the butterfly form, while native plants—purple coneflowers, cattails, and goldenrod—surround the water with color and life. The nearby white building with its green roof watches over the pond, completing the quiet, natural setting that visitors experience in the early morning light.

A simple brown 9×12 metal marker, mounted on a single brown 4×4 post just outside the pond, identifies the site as the Landmark Monarch Habitat Pond, ensuring visitors understand its significance and the role it plays in the refuge’s story.

This area also connects to the park’s ongoing wildlife efforts, including the nearby 45‑foot eagle perch project—another piece of the refuge’s long‑term commitment to stewardship and habitat creation.

The Landmark Monarch Habitat Pond remains a tribute to where the refuge began, and a reminder of the pollinators and wild creatures that inspired its mission.
