In 1984, Ramon Road was a two-lane road with very little traffic, and stores were quite a distance away. ORA, as the Resort was known at the time, was considered to be in a "rural" section of Cathedral City. From the original 131 lots ready for occupancy, to the current full ownership at 1,213, the community was renamed Outdoor Resort – Palm Springs, known fondly as ORPS, and is enjoyed by Owners
who have found this special and unique location in the Coachella Valley of Southern California. After initial presentation, the La Palma Clubhouse complex, complete with a large pool/hot tubs, tennis courts, as well as the completion of the first 9 holes of golf, followed in 1985. Growth continued rapidly through the years including the Satellites, each boasting a swimming pool/jacuzzi, laundry facilities and a tennis court. In 1987, 9 additional holes of golf were added and is now called the Big 18. By 1988, the Resort was completed with the addition of the El Saguaro Clubhouse complex, complete with an Olympic-size pool/jacuzzies, and the final 9 holes of golf were added. Since then, some tennis courts were converted into pickleball courts and the Owner’s Lounge, located in El Saguaro, was renovated. Currently, the Resort boasts two Clubhouses, with large ballrooms available to rent, 27 holes of par-3 golf, 10 tennis courts, 13 pickleball courts, seven self-laundry “satellites,” with a dog park in its future. A first-rate Fitness Center is housed at the La Palma clubhouse. The appeal for adults of all ages interested in the active racquet programs, golf, swimming, biking and hiking, was obvious to those who purchased their lots in those early years and remains so today, making this a classic choice for snowbirds from all over the nation, as well as Canada, to select for their winter destination. The Resort continues to improve and is internationally recognized as a Premier RV Resort.
