It matters not what I think. The $1,000 fines here in NY, are real. This past week, I locked our front door and I posted, "No Mask, No Entry."
Actually, we have been pretty much unaffected this whole year (the county has just 15 total cases, all recovered - no deaths) because we are always over half-full, and we only rent to the weekly and monthly guests anyway. By default.
[The new Tao; go-with-the-flow entrepreneurialism .]
Thankfully, our business model which emphasizes serving the short-term (weekly-monthly) needs of the local workers does not rely on us being forced catering to the overnight, one-night, traveller, tourists anyway.
[However, admittedly, I do feel for my fellow innkeepers on the other end of the county. You have this to deal with this Covid mess, the cancellation of the Nascar, and now, more ROAD CONSTRUCTION ON RTE 14? Really?
Just now, we avoided going to Watkins CVS because of this traffic hassle, traffic diversion on Rte 14, that was even worse a few days ago. Agh!]
So, while I personally think the rigidity of mask law is a tad overhyped, and unduly strict too, as a business owner, I am not allowing someone from the outside to put our livelihood in jeopardy, or at risk.
WHY SHOULD I? Is the rogue anti-masker going to pay the State of NY, my $1,000 fine we would incur for their political statement?
[That is what I thought. We do not need new guests or tenants that bad. No one is above the team, we are building here. Not in our motel. No way.
I pick my battles well. I know what affects me, and what does not. To compare the sheer magnitude, and the degree to which I am slightly inconvenienced on a day-to-day basis for this brief, almost imperceptible mask-wearing inconvenience to Monsanto's Dark Act, would be like comparing a pesky mosquito on my forearm to a faceless corporate entity impeding my right to be healthy and severely limiting my right to access, quality, plant-based whole foods!]
