Summit Inn Bed & Breakfast

Summit Inn Bed & Breakfast Delight yourself to a romantic stay at our historic home located in the St. Croix River Valley! Rank The first Swedish settlers came to Center City in 1851.

High above the sparkling waters of Ki-chi-saga (North Center Lake), sits their handiwork. A beautifully preserved concentration of late nineteenth and early twentieth century homes that resides on the National Registry of Historic Places. One of the unique features is that the original plat called for all the houses to face the lake. The 100+ year old Summit Inn sits high atop the bluff. Quaint li

mestone paths and an English cottage garden reminiscent of the Victorian era in which the home was built are features meticulously maintained by Innkeeper Elaine Sommer.

I served the last breakfast trays a couple of days ago and here are the remnants of today's breakfast before clean up. I am excited about retirement! (Bitter sweet, but mostly sweet.) I have hosted hundreds of wonderful guests and just a couple of stinkers, but being an innkeeper for 18 years was the fulfillment of a life long dream. Here I go with this new time. I feel relaxed!!

With a lump in my throat and a rather heavy heart, ( but considerable weight off my shoulders) I am closing Summit Inn B&B as of the middle of October. I will be honoring my current reservations, but accepting no new guests between now and then. The Covid-19 pandemic greatly affected my decision. With all of the new things I needed to do to keep my guests safe and healthy, hospitality looks very different to me now. I'll still be keeping my home and not selling the business.

I'm looking forward very much to the next chapter of my life and to retirement. If anyone has a gift certificate to redeem, please call me directly. Thanks to all of the wonderful guests I've been privileged to meet these past 18 years! I will never forget you all.

I decided to try a good attitude on this bleak day, so I have a fire going and I tried a new recipe for gluten free cinnamon rolls. They are more pastry than bread but they are good.
Stay cozy today!

Spring brings hope! I am planning to open the inn on June 1 on a limited basis. I have spent the last couple of months learning to adjust to this new world, learning how to get the inn open safely for guests and me.
Stay careful everyone.

Bed and Breakfasts have fallen through the cracks for any aid from Minnesota. I have written to my Minnesota representatives and am waiting for a reply. All my reservations through most of May have cancelled and I have not gotten any new reservations, in what should be my busy season.

B&B’s in the state have no source of income and minimal financial help in Gov. Tim Walz’s Executive Orders.

An update on our response to the Covid-19 situation: I have decided to wait until May 1 to take any reservations, in order to keep my potential guests healthy and safe. My hope is that by the beginning of May, the virus curve has flattened out, so that our hospitals can handle those who still are affected by the virus. I will be taking all of the recommended steps to make sure Summit Inn is ready for guests again. I miss you all!! I am looking forward to being able to welcome you again.

In response to the ongoing COVID-19 (coronavirus) pandemic, we want to provide some information on the precautions we are taking to ensure that each of our guests remain healthy and happy during their stay. We will continue to:

- clean and disinfect common area fixtures several times each day. These include doorknobs, light switches, hand rails and faucets.
- replace all glasses, washcloths and hand towels after every guest.
- replace all bath towels and robes after every guest.
- thoroughly clean and disinfect all room surfaces including doorknobs and light switches after every guest.
- thoroughly clean and disinfect all bathroom fixtures after every guest.

We hope all of our past and future guests are staying healthy during this trying time. When you’re ready to travel to the St. Croix Valley, we’d love to see you!

Hope for spring - beautiful daffodils and perfect (of course) grandchildren in Washington DC!
