Closer to Home

Closer to Home Meals are served from 11:30 to 12:30, Monday-Friday. Due to Covid-19, Masks are highly recommended. The entrance is on the east side facing Main Street.

Closer to Home is a not for profit organization with the simple goal of providing a free meal in a welcoming atmosphere for the community who might otherwise go without. Closer to Home is located in the Masonic Lodge, 365 Main Street, just north of the Dawes County Courthouse. A volunteer entrance with a door bell is on the south side, facing the Courthouse. Today, Closer to Home (C2H) Board Members presented a $1,000 check to Chadron Public Schools to assist them in meeting the nutritional needs of their most at risk students district wide.

As operations for Closer to Home wind down, the board is making a concerted effort to ensure all remaining funds are donated to organizations that align with our mission of providing nutritional support for our most vulnerable populations.

Closer to Home board members Emily Huffman, Brooke Smith and Nathan Smith presented a check to Loni Watson at Chadron Public Schools in the amount of $2,255 to pay off all negative school lunch account balances district wide! We hope this allows children and families to end the year with a little less stress on their shoulders!

A shout out to Duane and the guys at Home Haven for picking up and delivering a refrigerator donated to Closer to Home by Mary Morse. We can't even begin to express our appreciation to Mary for the amazing donation and to the crew at Home Haven for bringing to us.

We are serving meals to about 35 people a day right now who might otherwise go without so the extra fridge space will come in very handy!
