After reaching Cumbres Pass, they caught a ride with our Iron Rail Inn chauffeurs and enjoyed a little rest and relaxation with us before continuing their adventure.

We’re happy to announce that starting this week, Iron Rail Inn is now open on Tuesdays and Wednesdays! 🚂🍽️🍹

With summer approaching and our busiest season just around the corner, we’re expanding our hours to better serve our guests and community.

We know many of our guests visit Chama to experience the Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad, so we wanted to share this important update regarding their 2026 season opening. Due to drought conditions and elevated wildfire risk, operations have been delayed until at least June 9.

We support the difficult decisions being made to protect our forests, communities, and everyone who lives, works, and visits here. ❤️🌲

If you have upcoming travel plans, please check the railroad’s update below for the latest information regarding reservations and operations.

We’re thinking of all our local businesses, visitors, and neighbors and hoping for safe conditions and a successful season ahead.

IMPORTANT 2026 SEASON UPDATE

Due to severe drought conditions and elevated wildfire danger across the region, the Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad will postpone the start of its 2026 operating season.

The Railroad was originally scheduled to open May 23, but the C&TSRR Commission voted during an emergency meeting to delay opening until Tuesday, June 9. A review will be conducted on June 2 to determine if conditions have improved enough to safely begin operations.

With deep respect for the land, forests, and communities where we operate, this difficult decision was made in the interest of protecting passengers, employees, local communities, and the beautiful landscape through which we travel.

Guests with affected reservations have been contacted directly by our reservations department regarding rebooking options or refunds.

For more than 50 years, the Cumbres & Toltec has maintained an exceptional safety record and a strong commitment to wildfire prevention and responsible operations.

We sincerely appreciate your understanding, patience, and continued support during this challenging time and look forward to welcoming you aboard soon.

Happy Mother’s Day to all the mothers in every form — the moms raising babies, the grandmothers holding generations together, the stepmoms, bonus moms, foster moms, the women longing to be mothers, the moms carrying memories instead of little hands today, and the women who show up with unconditional love every single day.
Today especially, we want to celebrate our mom.
Long before the restoration, before the late nights and long days spent bringing the Iron Rail Inn back to life… she saw something special here. She believed in this place before the rest of us fully could. This throwback photo reminds us that behind every family story is a mother quietly holding it all together.
To our mom — thank you for your love, your strength, your belief in us, and for building a life that taught us the value of home, family, and hard work. The Iron Rail Inn wouldn’t exist without you.
