Rhodes Grove Camp and Conference Center has a strong historic and ongoing relationship with the Church of the United Brethren in Christ, USA. In 1898 the Pennsylvania Conference of the United Brethren in Christ Church first applied for the use of the Rhodes Grove land to host a summer camp meeting. The first services held by the United Brethren in Christ Church at Rhodes Grove were facilitated by

a simple roofed structure over the speaker’s platform. As the First World War was coming to a close, the conference decided to build permanent structures on the grounds. In 1917 they purchased the land from the Rhodes family heirs. In 1975 the camp board decided to make Rhodes Grove a year-round facility. A covenant relationship exists with the Church of the United Brethren in Christ, USA to preserve the heritage that birthed Rhodes Grove as well as affirm the mutually beneficial bond that both organizations share. Our activities are exciting, food is fantastic, and the love of Jesus is shared as we help whomever is on our campus discover that God is real and cares deeply for each and every one that He has created. Rhodes Grove is here “To offer Christ centered experiences that reveal our place in God’s story.” 2023 will mark the 125th anniversary the first United Brethren camp meetings at Rhodes Grove Camp. We expectantly await what the future holds!

One day the group of prophets came to Elisha and told him, “As you can see, this place where we meet with you is too small. Let’s go down to the Jordan River, where there are plenty of logs. There we can build a new place for us to meet.” “All right,” he told them, “go ahead.” “Please come with us,” someone suggested. “I will,” he said. So he went with them.

When they arrived at the Jordan, they began cutting down trees. But as one of them was cutting a tree, his ax head fell into the river. “Oh, sir!” he cried. “It was a borrowed ax!” “Where did it fall?” the man of God asked. When he showed him the place, Elisha cut a stick and threw it into the water at that spot. Then the ax head floated to the surface. “Grab it,” Elisha said. And the man reached out and grabbed it.

But very early on Sunday morning, the women went to the tomb, taking the spices they had prepared. They found that the stone had been rolled away from the entrance. So they went in, but they didn’t find the body of the Lord Jesus. As they stood there puzzled, two men suddenly appeared to them, clothed in dazzling robes.

The women were terrified and bowed with their faces to the ground. Then the men asked, “Why are you looking among the dead for someone who is alive? He isn’t here! He is risen from the dead! Remember what he told you back in Galilee, that the Son of Man must be betrayed into the hands of sinful men and be crucified, and that he would rise again on the third day.”

Board Member Spotlight: Dr. Sherry Goertz ("Nurse Sherry") 🌟

From helping her grandmother prep Cabin A2 as a young girl to serving on our Board of Directors today, Dr. Sherry Goertz’s roots at Rhodes Grove run generations deep!

Whether you know her as "Nurse Sherry" at summer camp or Dr. Goertz in the professional community, Sherry’s life has been defined by faith, service, and dedication to others:

Generational Legacy: Baptized at RG summer camp in 1974, Sherry grew up playing tetherball, helping in the old dining hall, and encountering the Lord on these holy grounds.

40+ Years of Nursing & Service: Joined the Army at 17, served as a Registered Nurse across hospitals, home health, and outpatient care, and taught nursing at Penn State for 26 years!

Current Leadership: Today, she owns and operates a private practice as a Board Certified Clinical Nurse Specialist in advanced psychiatric care. At Rhodes Grove, she faithfully serves as our Board Recording Secretary, Chair of the Personnel Committee, and—of course—our beloved summer camp nurse!

Outside of her ministry and medical practice, Sherry is married to her husband Dirk, a proud mom to 7 adult children, and "Grammy Sherry" to 6 grandchildren. She’s an active worship team member at Blue Rock Church and loves sewing, gardening, swimming, reading, and spending time in God’s Word.

"Rejoice in the Lord always and again I say rejoice!" — Philippians 4:4

Thank you, Sherry, for your lifelong devotion to the ministry and community of Rhodes Grove!
