Here is a long awaited update to the Old School on the Hill B&B.
We have had the property listed for a year + and our agent, Denise Nolte with Mossy Oak Properties had been diligent working with us for the sale. This last round we apparently found a price point that sparked a lot of interest and had multiple showings.
We found it interesting that most buyers wanted it to live in, and not for a business. That struck us as odd as there is not really a residence on site but it is possible.
We have a contract on the property and we have a closing date of April 6, 2026. This has happened very quickly on top of another move we made recently in Washington, MO. So we’ve had a lot going on for the first months of the year.
In light of this contract, the new owners plan to live there and have indicated they will have a business but we have no idea what their plans will be. I met the other day with Chamois Historic Preservation and donated a lot of information, photos and historical records to them. I wanted to ensure that these items are properly preserved for our community. I had a great time with Susan, Sherry and Cheryl looking at all of the history surrounding Chamois. Over the past decade I was an ambassador of our town to many visitors who graced our doors. It has been a joy to share the stories and treasures of Chamois with so many.
We averaged between 80 - 100 stays a year the most being just under 200 in one year. We believe that’s been pretty awesome.
The Schaperclaus’ ran it for a decade and we have run it for a decade. She’s had an amazing history as the Chamois Public School, Legion Hall 506, and Old School on the Hill B&B This year, this iconic building is 150 years old on the anniversary of our nation’s 250th birthday.
Even though it has become harder for us to maintain as we have aged, we have dearly loved this place, its history and every guest that has graced her doors. It has truly been an experience of a lifetime.
We close on the property on 4/6/26 and turn over the keys and history to new owners. I hope you will welcome them to the community as graciously as you have us.
We still have our home here in Chamois as well as our home in Washington, making us dual citizens of Franklin and Osage counties. So we will still be around.
Thank you for supporting us. Helping us and letting us share yours & our unique heritage with so many.
I’m not sure what we will do with this page, but it will stay up for a bit.
Love you all!
