☀️🥵 A few of our favorite ways to escape Charleston’s warmest summer days.

🐠 — Go beyond the exhibits with a visit to the Aquarium’s renowned Sea Turtle Care Center™, where you can watch rescued sea turtles on their journey from rehabilitation to release. It’s one of Charleston’s most memorable experiences for visitors of all ages.

🍦 — A new local favorite, Gustard’s serves freshly churned frozen custard with rotating seasonal flavors in a relaxed neighborhood setting—well worth the short drive when you’re craving something sweet.

🕯️ — Explore Candlefish’s signature Library of 100 Fragrances, then create two custom candles of your own during one of their popular candle-making workshops. It’s one of Charleston’s most unique indoor experiences. (Candlefish)

🦩 — The Co-Op earned its reputation for Charleston’s iconic Frosé, making it the perfect stop for a frozen drink and a gourmet sandwich before heading back out to explore the city.

📚 — This beloved independent bookstore is a destination in itself, featuring thoughtfully curated shelves, Southern literature, author events, and a cozy atmosphere that invites you to linger.

🍰 — Just steps from Planters Inn, Benne’s is our favorite place to recharge with handcrafted espresso, fresh pastries, or a slice of Peninsula Grill’s legendary Ultimate Coconut Cake in an inviting café setting.

🎨 — Home to one of the country’s finest collections of American art with a Southern perspective, the Gibbes pairs rotating exhibitions with beautiful historic architecture just a short walk from the Inn.

Welcome home, Chef!

We are honored to welcome Chef John Ondo back as The Executive Chef of Peninsula Grill! 🙌

New Dining in Downtown Charleston’s 🍽️

🍣 | 479 King St.
Tokyo-born Chef Masa Hamaya brings robata-fired Japanese tavern dining to Upper King. Think smoky skewers, deeply layered ramen, crisp tempura, and hand rolls — all centered around a glowing open-hearth grill.

☕ | 115 Wentworth St.
European café charm — pastries and espresso by morning, wine and cocktails by night. The newest location of this downtown Charleston staple brings its signature old-world warmth to Harleston Village, tucked inside a beautifully restored 1910s brick building.

🥟 | 73 Spring St.
Filipino-Japanese street food — dumplings, wagyu onigiri, noodle soups, and Japanese shaved ice. Rooted in the spirit of the Cannonborough–Elliotborough neighborhood, Bareo is the kind of casual, creative, come-as-you-are spot downtown has been quietly waiting for.

🥐 | 185 St. Philip St.
After years of quietly supplying Charleston’s best restaurants with fresh breads and pastries, Annie and Jason Vieira fiunally have a (pink!) place to call their own. Expect Southern classics like biscuits, key lime pie, coconut cream cake, and inventive lattes like vanilla date and raspberry pistachio. A true labor of love — and it shows.
