Chelan County agriculture is changing — because it has to.

For generations, family farms survived through traditional production alone. Today, rising costs, labor shortages, taxes, insurance, fuel, and declining commodity prices have changed the reality of farming.

Many farms now rely on:
🌾 Direct-to-consumer sales
🐴 Farm education & camps
🍎 Farm visits & u-pick
🌻 Agritourism experiences
🚜 Farm stays & rural tourism

These are not “extra” businesses. They are what help keep farms alive.

We believe Chelan County policies should recognize agritourism as an essential part of modern agriculture — not treat every farm activity as a separate commercial use requiring multiple costly permits.

If farms cannot adapt, they cannot survive.
And when farms disappear, we lose:

✔ Rural character
✔ Local food systems
✔ Agricultural heritage
