Perspective - Arkansas trout waters seem small when compared to the rest of the upper White River watershed that surrounds it. The map shows how the watershed area managed by dams in the upper White River dwarfs the area surrounding each individual Arkansas tailwater.

The underground recharge area for Mammoth Spring eclipses most of the watershed tied to the Spring River trout fishery. Other major creeks and rivers residing within the upper White River watershed either flow next to, into, or join areas surrounding specific trout waters and cumulatively have a larger area within the upper White River watershed.

Amazingly, however, those small areas that surround each of the Arkansas trout waters contribute to some of the most unique and economically important fisheries in the state.
