One visit. Thousands of flowers.
A single bee can visit up to 5,000 flowers in a single day — and sunflowers are one of their favorites.
This National Pollinator Week, we’re celebrating the small but mighty workers keeping our world in bloom. 🌻🐝
They don’t just collect nectar. They carry life.
As a bee moves from flower to flower, tiny grains of pollen hitch a ride on its body — cross-pollinating plants and making reproduction possible. About 1 in 3 bites of food you eat exists because of this moment. 🌸🐝
Even bees have a self-care routine.
Bees groom themselves constantly — clearing pollen from their eyes, antennae, and legs to keep their sensory organs sharp.
Those specialized pollen baskets on their hind legs? They pack them deliberately, one careful leg-swipe at a time. 🐝✨
This is what a good summer looks like.
Our rooftop colonies are drawing new comb and one hive has already begun storing honey — a sign the bees are taking full advantage of Chicago’s summer nectar flow.
It takes about 2 million flower visits to produce a single pound of honey. Worth every one. 🍯🐝
