Just some FYI for this years carnival:

Last year we decided to do away with wrist bands. There were so many people and we were down a ride (Paratrooper) that we didn’t feel it was fair to those who paid for a wrist band to only be used for one night and didn’t get to ride only a couple of times. So we implemented a new plan with tickets. As you will see in the pic with this post, we offer a discount on tickets and those tickets can be used ANY NIGHT the carnival is open. You buy tickets on Friday? You can use them whenever you want to, regardless of the color of ticket. We wanted to make this fair for all who come to spend their hard earned money to be able to enjoy some rides and enjoy them at any time. So when you get to the ticket booth this year, buy accordingly because although you can use the tickets anytime, any night, the are NO REFUNDS. We look forward to seeing everyone!!

KAYAKS ARE BACK!

The summer season is in full swing for our Park Rangers and visitors alike, and one thing that comes with it is ranger guided kayak tours, so join us! Seats are limited and cost $20.00 per person. Guided tours are around 2 hours in length and dive deep into the history and ecology of Assateague Island.

Plan to arrive for your tour 30 minutes early to allow for parking and the required safety briefing. All participants must have closed-toe shoes and wear a personal flotation device.

In Maryland: Tours are available on Saturdays and Sundays at 9:30 am, now through September 2nd. Sign up at the Barrier Island Visitor Center at least one day in advance.

In Virginia: See the weekly ranger program schedule at: https://www.nps.gov/asis/planyourvisit/ranger-guided-programs.htm for the next available trip. Participants must be age 13 or older, and anyone under 16 must have a parent/guardian also on the tour. Sign up inside of Toms Cove Visitor Center.

Wow!

Look what was just spotted a few moments ago in the waters between Chincoteague and Wallops Islands- a flamingo! Hurricane Idalia caused flamingos to be blown off course, and they are now being spotted up and down the eastern seaboard far from their Florida home. What a beautiful bird and a rare sighting!
