Penumbra is thrilled to announce that applications are now open for our inaugural Summer Artist-in-Residency program!
Immerse yourself in the beauty and serenity of the high desert while staying in a modern desert retreat nestled on six acres above the Verde River in Clarkdale, AZ, thirty minutes from Sedona. Each artist will have their own private apartment suite in which to live and work in this self-directed residency. Artists will be accepted on the basis of artistic excellence and the merits of their residency proposal. Accepted artists are encouraged to consider the vast surrounding desert as their primary studio and inspiration. We welcome artists of all mediums and experience levels to apply. This is an exceptional opportunity to focus deeply on your work, surrounded by the captivating high desert landscape.
Residency Sessions:
Session 1: July 22-29
Session 2: July 29 - August 5.
Cost: $845 per session
Who Can Apply:
Emerging and established artists working in the following disciplines are invited to apply: visual arts, writing, film/video arts, interdisciplinary arts, literature, music composition, theatre and architecture. Collaborative teams may also apply. Must be 22 years old or older and demonstrate an ability to work in a collaborative and respectful environment.
What to Expect:
Freedom to create and spend your time as you please in a luxurious apartment suite with its own living/work area, bathroom and kitchen. There are five slots available per session.
A welcome reception and closing dinner will be provided during your stay.
The climate is High Desert. Please note that summer months can be very hot; all units are equipped with AC. Most mornings are cool until mid-morning.
Artists must supply their own transportation, meals, supplies and equipment.
No pets or individuals that are not the accepted artist are allowed.

-Weblink(s) to your work
-A short one-page proposal of the project/work you intend to focus on during your residency
-5 images/videos/sound links/writing samples of your work
-Indicate which session(s) you are available for and if you would like to attend both sessions at a cost of $845 per session
