A Gateway Built on Vision, Leadership & Community Pride 🌟
The City of Clarksville’s beautiful “Gateway to Texas” Trail section of the NorthEast Texas Trail (NETT) is complete, transforming just under 2.5 miles of previously natural-surface former railroad corridor into a smooth, paved trail for residents and visitors of all ages to enjoy.
This tremendous community asset was made possible through a 2021 TxDOT Transportation Alternatives Grant Award, with the required match provided through federal Transportation Development Credits—resulting in no cost to the City of Clarksville. The NETT Coalition is deeply grateful to TxDOT for its investment in this trail and in the continued development of safe non-motorized connectivity in NorthEast Texas!
But projects like this don’t happen without vision and leadership.
Clarksville’s leaders have long recognized what this trail could mean for their community and worked to turn that vision into reality. Their commitment has resulted in a linear park that connects people with places, celebrates local heritage, welcomes visitors, and gives residents another reason to take pride in the place they call home.
And what a place it is!
Located about 25 miles east of Paris, Clarksville’s Gateway to Texas section of the NETT takes visitors back in time, through a region rich with Texas history and cultural significance. Today, that remarkable heritage is another priceless part of the experience of exploring the NorthEast Texas Trail.
Congratulations, Clarksville! Your vision, leadership, and community pride have created a true Gateway to Texas. 🚲🥾🌳
