The PA Wilds is attracting some attention from national media as a great place to visit. Though sparsely populated, we who live here see the beauty of the mountains and pastoral farms that dot the landscape all the time. We have had guests from all over the country and the world and so many are surprised at how beautiful Pennsylvania is - they never knew!

CNN recently named their list of the 25 most underrated destinations. Buffalo, N.Y., and the Pennsylvania Wilds both made the cut.

The list promised readers 25 destinations that “remain refreshingly underrated despite the surge” in travelers.

The destinations were listed geographically, from the North East to the Pacific.

Buffalo was mentioned as a city with beautiful structures such as the Art Deco City Hall and Frank Lloyd Wright’s Martin House. The city’s revamped waterfront gets a mention too, as does its proximity to Niagara Falls.

Standing in contrast to the city life, the Pennsylvania Wilds make the list as one of the least populated areas of the continental United States. The list specifically mentions the Allegany National Forest as only one of the 29 state or federal parks that the Wilds encompass.

Here's something new and exciting taking place this week in the PA Wilds!

"The Endless Mountains Adventure Race is a five day, 352-mile/550 kilometer course that covers the wilds region. Teams of two to four started the race Monday in Punxsutawney and will be racing through Curwensville, Clearfield, St. Marys, Ridgway, Cook Forest and the surrounding wilderness before ending in Clarion on Friday."

Our guests have had spectacular success in viewing elk this fall. This morning's guests at the B&B showed a video they took last night of two bull elk fighting in a field very close to the road they were traveling. A must see - and you don't have to travel to Montana to view these magnificent animals!

Early morning fog was still hanging over the field near Karthaus when the first elk’s bugle pierced the silence of the cool air. I could barely make out what appeared to be elk cows and calves feeding on the clover, but they were not the ones making the racket — a large bull was.
