Gratitude w/o the Attitude
#11-23-15
We don't give thanks for only one day, but also out of the other 364 days of the year. The Thanksgiving season is a time to be reminded and to show thanks of the very things we have and the blessings we do not deserve.
In :11-19 there were nine who didn't think so. There was only one that showed true appreciation for his gift. Ten lepers stood at a distance, and called out to Jesus, expressing their need to be healed. They were banned from society, from the law and from the Father's presence. Jesus stepped in, healed them and brought them back into society, back into love, but only one returned to give praise.
We can imagine the other nine walking away with attitudes of pride, entitlement or even dissatisfaction, saying: "Well, Jesus didn't heal me enough...or didn't make me look good in-front of other people..." Obviously, the lepers were so self-absorbed after getting what they wanted, that they forgot about their Maker.
We too make huge efforts to express our needs and ask people for things. It could be at the coffee line, at the customer service department or even at the volunteer both of our church. When someone comes through to grant your need, how do you show your appreciation, not by your words, but by your actions?
We find words of gratitude in .25 that says: "Whom have I in heaven but you? And earth has nothing I desire besides you." We also find what it means to have rightful attitudes in .32 "The humble shall see this, and be glad: and your heart shall live that seek God."
When we keep the precepts of God in our hearts, gratitude comes from the mouth, by the fruit of praise upon our lips. .15 "Through Jesus, therefore, let us continually offer to God a sacrifice of praise--the fruit of lips that openly profess his name."
