"We are having a great time, thank you. Premises and lodge are beautiful... had the longest game of yard Jenga in the history of yard Jenga this afternoon." 😂

One year ago today, on June 15, 2025, Corton Lodge welcomed its first guests.

What began as a vision to preserve a historic 1913 church and share the beauty of the Elk River has become something much bigger than we imagined.

Over the past year, we've been blessed to:

• Welcome guests from across West Virginia and around the country
• Host weddings, family gatherings, reunions, and celebrations
• Restore and improve miles of trails throughout the property
• Expand parking, improve river access, and continue caring for 180 acres of wild and beautiful land
• Complete our stone entrance fence and countless other projects large and small
• Install a flagpole dedicated to honoring our veterans, service members, and loved ones who remain woven into the fabric of our lives
• Share sunsets, campfires, river adventures, and quiet moments with hundreds of visitors

But our greatest accomplishment isn't a building, trail, or project.

It's the people we've met along the way.

Thank you to every guest who stayed with us, every couple who trusted us with their wedding day, every friend who volunteered a hand, every contractor and craftsman who helped bring this place to life, and every person who has encouraged us on this journey.

Corton Lodge was built on a simple belief: that people need places where they can slow down, reconnect, and find peace in nature.

As we begin year two, we are filled with gratitude for the next step, the next breath, and the opportunity to continue sharing this special place.

Improvements continue at Corton Lodge!

One of our current projects is rerouting the creek to help stop erosion while creating additional usable riverfront space for our guests to enjoy. This improvement will allow us to expand the river rock area by approximately 25 feet, creating even more room to relax by the water, gather around a fire, or enjoy future weddings and special events along the Elk River.

We're also improving the parking area by expanding it approximately 8 feet and straightening the railroad tie border to create a cleaner, more organized appearance and improve guest access.

It's amazing to look back and see how much has changed since we first began restoring this property. Every project is part of our ongoing effort to preserve the land, improve the guest experience, and continue creating a special place where people can gather, celebrate, and make memories.

This week, we finally put up the flag pole at Corton Lodge.

It’s amazing how quickly time flies. On June 15, Corton Lodge will officially celebrate one year since opening. I had intended to have an American flag flying from the very beginning. It wasn’t really procrastination — it was one of those meaningful things that always stayed in my mind, and I kept telling myself, “I’ll get it done.”

This past week, I made a promise to have it up before Memorial Day. We did it.

A huge thank you to Jeff Rollyson and Snook Rose for helping make it happen.

As the flag now flies over Corton Lodge, we’re honored to remember and recognize the American soldiers and veterans — past and present — who sacrificed so much for this country. And for many of us, Memorial Day is also about remembering the people we’ve loved and lost, knowing they are still woven into the fabric of our lives. 🇺🇸
