Free admission.
Outdoors....on 8 acres....
Bathroom ( Porta Potty ) provided.
Bring your binoculars and camera and wander around and see what you can find.
Lots of birds out here. You never know what may show up.

I admitted these two Yellow Billed Cuckoos....
the first one three days ago on the 18th....
Amanda Denton found him and rescued him....thank you Amanda.

The second one yesterday....on the 20th...
Laura Peterson found him and rescued him...thank you Laura.

Both were window strikes.

The first one had large amounts of blood coming from his mouth and throat and could not hold his head up.

The second one has a wing injury.
These two cuckoos are lucky...they survived.....but so many others are killed.

Window strikes are deadly....they are a huge problem and kill millions of birds every year.

I know I say this all the time...but I am going to keep saying it....because it is so important.

There are many ways and products that we can use to prevent birds from hitting our windows....many are cheap and easy to apply. We can all help with this problem and save a lot of birds.

Would you like to help feed this little one ? His name is Rowland.
I need LIVE Waxworms....lots. And they are expensive

I just got this little Tennessee Warbler yesterday.
Meesh just picked out a name for him. " Rowland "

A very nice lady... Katrina Wright rescued him and brought him to me. Thank you Katrina.
He was a window strike.....and has some head injuries and balance and neuro issues...so he is on meds and has to stay here for awhile.

Good news is...he is now eating..
Bad news is ......he won't eat anything except LIVE Waxworms.

I am helping him.....can you help him too ?

Each container has 250 LIVE waxworms...but I always get at least 4 containers at a time....because 250 does not last long at all. ....
so any amount you order would really help...the more the better.
I would appreciate it and so would the birds.

Howdy Kelsey....there are LOTS of ways and products to prevent window strikes. Check out this marker method video.
Easy cheap and works. :)
You could also buy decals or polka dots to place on windows.
Google : "Ways to prevent bird window strikes " that will give you lots of ideas.

I admitted this beautiful Cedar Waxwing in a few days ago. A very nice lady...( Lynn Graham ) rescued him.
He along with two other Waxwings had hit a window.
When she went to check on them unfortunately two were dead and this one was the only one still alive so she brought him to me.
Thank you for rescuing him Lynn.

He is doing better and eating lots of food.....but not 100% yet..so keep your fingers crossed.

Window strikes kill millions and millions of birds each year....and there are so many SIMPLE and inexpensive ways to resolve this huge problem.
Please protect these valuable birds by making your windows bird safe....there is absolutely no reason not to do this.
Don't let your windows be part of their problem....

Did you know that Cedar Waxwings are like little nomads....
they fly around looking for trees and bushes that grow berries and fruit.....which is their favorite food. :)
Plant some fruit bushes/trees and you will get Cedars....can't beat that. :)

I got this beauty ( Purple Martin ) in a few days ago.
A very nice lady ( Sylvia Hadley ) found him on the ground and rescued him. Thank you Sylvia.

He is not out of the woods yet but seems to be improving.
He has FINALLY started eating on his own.

Purple Martins are long distance migrants spending the winter in South America.....and they are declining in numbers

You can help them if you have the right habitat and location.
Do your homework to see what they require. Then put up Purple Martin Houses. You won't be sorry because they are fantastic insect control.

Check this out :
The oldest Purple Martin on record was at least 13 years, 9 months old, banded in 1933 and found in 1947 in Illinois where it was originally banded.

A very nice lady...Debbie Huff rescued this little Bluebird.
Thank you Debbie.

This little one was attacked by a House Sparrow.
Serious injuries and has no vision at the moment.

House Sparrows are a huge disgusting problem and will kill when given the chance.
Basically if a Bluebird ( or any other bird ) is in a nest box...
a House Sparrow will put it's head in the entrance of the box and viciously peck the Bird to death.
The bird can not escape because the Sparrow is blocking the entrance so the outcome is usually death.

House Sparrows will kill the adults...the babies...and destroy the eggs.
House Sparrows have a detrimental impact on our cavity nesting songbirds.
They will attack and kill Bluebirds...Martins...Swallows and other cavity nesters.

House Sparrows are not native and are an invasive species....therefore they are NOT protected by law so you can get rid of them any way that you want.

This poor little Bluebird will probably die.
