At Takundewide cottages, choosing your chair may be the hardest decision of the day.

Since opening in 1954, Takundewide’s beach chairs and chaises have been proudly made nearby at Telescope Casual Furniture in Granville, NY. We had the amazing sunset at Takundewide Cottages too!

So we didnt get much of a sunrise this morning, but there was a heck of a sunset over the village and lake last night!

Here is a shot looking down Beach Road, and the Lake George Steamboat Company, towards the evening lights of the village with Prospect Mountain in the background.

I know there hasnt been a lot of history or story telling this week, unfortunately Ive been incredibly busy and havent had the time to do much research into making these posts. It takes me an hour+ to edit the photo and then another 30 minutes to an hour to research and write these posts, so needless to say when it's busy like this for me I will try to keep posting photos, so I hope that you can forgive me for nothing truly informative this week!

Since 1954, families have gathered at Takundewide Cottages. The classic swings and slide, generously gifted by our neighbors, the Hillmans, was placed in the heart of the property still stand there today. They may be old-fashioned, but they are filled with lifelong memories.

Remember climbing to the top of that big slide for the first time? Did your family take your annual summer photo on the slide? Did you meet up with your friends at the swings in the early evening? Do you remember the bench that circled the big tree near the playground?

It’s a tradition that continues to bring families together.

There’s something special about waking up on Lake George before the rest of the world does. The water turns to glass, the mountains sit quietly in the distance, and the only sounds are birds in the trees and the occasional ripple across the lake.

Did you know?
Back in 1954, when Jane and Alger bought the property, there was only one small one-bedroom cottage here on the lake. You can spot it right in the middle of this photo 👀

That very first year, they built Cottages #1, #2, and #3 — which made the original little lakefront cottage officially “Cottage #4.”

Not long after, they added Cottages #5, #6, #7, and #8, growing the property into the vacation spot so many families came to love over the years.

Here’s where the numbering gets a little interesting… Eventually, the original one-bedroom Cottage #4 was taken down and replaced with a new two-bedroom cottage. Since the old #4 no longer existed, the new cottage became Cottage #5 — and the numbering shifted from there.

A lot has changed since 1954, but one thing hasn’t: families making Lake George memories here year after year ❤️
