SUBJECTS THAT SHOULD BE MANDATORY IN SCHOOLS
Schools prepare children for exams, but education should also prepare them for life. Academic knowledge matters, yet many essential skills are learned only after mistakes, struggles, and expensive experiences.
1. Life Skills: Cooking, nutrition, cleaning, basic budgeting, and everyday responsibilities build independence.
2. Financial Literacy: Children should understand saving, taxes, investing, debt, interest, and responsible spending before entering adulthood.
3. Mental Health & Stress Management: Mindfulness, emotional awareness, resilience, and healthy ways to handle stress are valuable lifelong skills.
4. Self-Defence: Personal safety, situational awareness, boundaries, and basic self-defence can build confidence and preparedness.
5. Social Etiquette & Communication: Respectful communication, empathy, listening, conflict resolution, and healthy relationships should be taught intentionally.
6. Basic Home Repair: Knowing how to fix simple household problems can save money and build self-reliance.
7. Survival Skills: First aid, emergency preparedness, basic navigation, and essential outdoor skills can matter when unexpected situations arise.
8. Insurance & Real-World Basics: Students should understand health, life, and vehicle insurance, important documents, and everyday adult responsibilities.
9. Public Speaking: Clear expression, confidence, presentation skills, and thoughtful communication can benefit almost every career.
Education shouldn't only teach us how to pass exams. It should teach us how to navigate life.
