Hey Campers!

Just a quick heads-up — the park water will be shut off starting November 3rd for the season.

Don’t panic! You can still fill your tanks at the spigot in the center of the park and dump at the station on the north end.

There won’t be any water at the shower houses either, so plan your last hot shower like it’s a spa day! 🧖‍♀️🚿

Winter camping rates drop to $15 per day, and best of all — no more moving sites every two weeks once the water’s off. 🙌

Thanks for sticking around and braving the cozy season with us — we promise plenty of crisp air, quiet nights, and maybe a squirrel or two for entertainment. 🐿️❄️

It's that time of the year again....

Hey All Boater/River Peeps... The parking lot that abuts the 9th Avenue boat ramp will be locked starting October 1st to protect the boats that we've begun pulling for winter lot storage. Those of you who trailer your boats can park across the street in the overflow parking lot by the RV Park or the gravel lot across from Wendy's. Patrons can access the Amenities Bld or A Dock by the side gate off of Roosevelt during normal business hours. Mechanic, Tyler Jensen, can be reached at 563-249-7341 for haul out and winterizing needs. Please call the marina at 563-242-3600 if you have any questions/concerns. Thank you!

🐿 Squirrel Safety 101 – If You’re Going to Feed Them, Do It Right! 🐿

We know… the squirrels here are ridiculously cute and very persuasive with those big eyes and twitchy tails.

While we don’t recommend feeding wildlife (for their safety and yours), we also know some of you are going to do it anyway. So, let’s make sure it’s done in the safest way possible!

✅ Safer Snack Choices:

🥜 Raw, unsalted nuts (walnuts, pecans, almonds, hazelnuts) – keep them in the shell for dental health.

🥕 Fresh veggies (carrot sticks, green beans, bell pepper pieces).

🍎 Fresh fruit in small amounts (apple slices, grapes, berries – no seeds or pits!).

🚫 Please Avoid:

Bread, crackers, chips, candy – these aren’t good for squirrels’ little tummies.

Salted, flavored, or roasted nuts – too much sodium and oils.

Processed foods of any kind.

💧 Water Helps Too!

Shallow bowls or frisbees are perfect.

Place them on the ground or low stumps so they’re easy for squirrels to reach.

Change the water daily to keep it clean.

🐿 Feeding Safety Tips:

Feed from a distance – don’t hand-feed! It keeps their wild instincts sharp and your fingers intact.

Offer food in small amounts so they don’t start relying on people as their only food source.

Keep feeding areas away from campsites to avoid them becoming too friendly (or stealing snacks from your table).

Let’s keep our furry neighbors healthy and happy, without turning them into campground con artists. 🥷

🌩️ Stormy Weather Survival 101 — Campground Edition! 🌬️⛺

Hey there, happy campers!

It’s 🏕️Camp Host Dee🏕️ here at Gary McDermott RV Park in Clinton, IA, coming to you live from the land of neverending rain, surprise wind gusts, and the occasional runaway awning. 😅

We've had some gnarly weather lately, and unfortunately, a few awnings have taken flight like they’re trying to hitch a ride to Nebraska. Let’s keep your RV (and your stuff) safe with a few quick bad weather prep tips:

✅ Retract your awnings before you leave or head to bed. Wind doesn't care how new or fancy it is, it’ll rip it off faster than a kid opening birthday presents.

✅ Stash or secure anything loose.Think: chairs, rugs, décor, and anything else that might try to become airborne. If it’s cute, the wind definitely wants it.

✅ Double-check your weather app. If it says "severe," take it seriously, even if the sky looks fine. That's Iowa for you. 🤷

✅ Know where your flashlights and emergency gear are (bonus points if the batteries still work).

✅ Don’t be afraid to ask for help. If you’re unsure about what to do or need a hand, that’s what I’m here for!

Let’s all do our part to keep things grounded, literally and figuratively. 😄 I’d hate to see another awning meet its tragic end in the park.

Also as a reminder, the shower house IS a storm shelter. It does require a code to get in. I typically send out a greeting text to everyone when they put in their site payment that has the bathroom code, but if you need it, contact me at the Host phone: 563-559-4755.

Stay safe, stay dry, and remember: better to roll it in and not need it, than leave it out and launch it into orbit. 🚀

See y’all around the campground!

Be careful, take cover as needed, and be safe! Reach out to the Camp Host for any questions or concerns. 563-559-4755
