Of the 1,049 lakes in Otter Tail County, the very first settlers chose the shores of Clitherall Lake to call home. From that time on, Clitherall Lake has caught the joy and imagination of many outdoor enthusiasts. George Hammer wrote in 1884, "We sail along the eastern shore for a mile and a half arriving at "Cape Lundquist" (Scenic Point) whose hospitable villa is always open to tourists. We then
round the "Point" of "Cape Lundquist" into the lovely and sheltered "Eureka Bay." The lake is formed in the shape of the letter "T" and there is always a calm harbor in one of her bays." Every year, guests return to Scenic Point to recount fond memories of good times and good fishing of years gone by. The Coltons first came to Clitherall Lake in 1959 as visitors from Iowa and in 1984 purchased Scenic Point. Since that time, there have been many improvements and additions, most notable being the 3 and 4 bedroom cabins, a 26 unit campground, a new store and lodge area. Scenic Point also sports a sand beach volleyball, canoes, kayaks and swimming raft. The cabins are all located within 35' of the water's edge and because of Scenic Point's unique location, we have swimming areas with little or no unwanted boat traffic or weeds. The boat harbor offers excellent protection for large boats and great fishing from shore. We are able to accommodate every situation from the single tent camper to large family reunions and weddings. Come and enjoy the special feeling that has kept people coming to Scenic Point for over 100 years.
