Ocean Rescue - Know the flags
Before you head into the water, know the flags and what they mean. 🚩🌊
Green does NOT mean “no danger,” and yellow does NOT mean “safe everywhere.” Ocean conditions can change rapidly, and flash rip currents can form even on green and yellow flag days.
When lifeguards fly the flags, multiple factors are considered:
• Surf conditions
• Rip currents
• Weather and lightning
• Tides
• Marine life activity
• Beach conditions
🚩 Double Red Flags can mean:
• Water conditions are too dangerous to swim
• Lightning is in the area
• Dangerous marine life or shark activity has been spotted
If yellow flags are flying, continue to pay attention to beach signage marking dangerous areas and rip currents.
The ocean is always changing. Respect the flags, listen to lifeguards, and stay aware so everyone goes home safe. 🌊
