This Memorial Day, we pause to honor the brave men and women who gave their lives in service to our nation. Their sacrifice secured the freedoms we enjoy and the peace we too often take for granted.

As Masons, we are reminded that service, duty, and devotion to something greater than ourselves are among the highest callings. Today, we remember those who answered that call with courage and made the ultimate sacrifice.

May we never forget their service, may we honor their memory, and may we strive to live lives worthy of the freedoms they helped preserve.

Lest we forget. 🇺🇸

It is with profound sadness we announce the passing of one of our long time members, Brother Carl R. Ruel

December 27, 1962 — May 31, 2025

Errol, NH

Carl Raymond Ruel, 62, of Errol, passed away at home on Saturday, May 31, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. Carl was born in Berlin, New Hampshire on December 27,1962 to Leo and Eleanor (Blanchard) Ruel.

Carl exemplified dedication to his profession, always taking pride in his work at NHDOT District 1, where his hard work, skill, and commitment to his vocation led to him working his way from a plow truck and equipment operator to his current position of Maintenance Supervisor. Carl was truly “proud to be NHDOT” for nearly 25 years.

The only thing that Carl loved more than his job was his family. His wife, children, and grandchildren were his pride and joy, and he loved them with a fierce passion. They returned his love unconditionally, and are and forever will be so proud of him and his accomplishments. Carl particularly loved days with his family at the camp on Lake Umbagog, hunting with his ”boys” – his brother, Toby, his son-in-law, Matt, and his grandson, Aidan; rum buckets on the wharf at Boothbay Harbor, and annual Father’s Day weekend trips to Old Orchard Beach with his wife, children, and grandchildren, who enjoyed playing in the sand with their “Pepper.”

Carl was a self-taught, talented carpenter who not only built an addition on his own home, but helped his daughters finish, expand, and improve theirs. Carl had a knack for being able to fix almost anything, whether he’d done it before or not. He was raised to the Sublime Degree of Master Mason in Evening Star Lodge No. 37 on October 18, 1995, and was also a 32 Degree Scottish Rite Mason, being a long-time member of the Valley of Lancaster Littleton, Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite, Northern Masonic Jurisdiction.

Carl worked hard, played hard, and most importantly, loved hard.

Carl leaves the love of his life, his wife Terri, whom he married on August 1, 1981; his three beloved daughters, Stacey Smith (Matt, whom he considered to be the son he never had, and his best friend) of Errol, Julie Wilmot (John) of Bellingham, Massachusetts, and Devon Phillips (Morgan) of Errol; his five grandchildren, whom he was especially proud of and adored beyond measure, Aidan and Jackson Smith, Noelle Wilmot, and Emma and Rawson Phillips; his brother, Toby Ruel (Maureen) of Bartlett, his sisters Krystal Chapman (Kevin) of Berlin, and Lora-Lee Roman (Sean) of North Carolina, his aunt, Faye Ruel; his mother-in-law Elsie Hall, and his brother-in-law Michael Hall (Lori) of Errol; his sister-in-law Lisa Hall (Nelson) of West Stewartstown; his nieces and nephews, and his NHDOT family. He was predeceased by his father, Leo, his brother, Scott Ruel, his father-in-law, David Hall, and his good friend, Jesse Eames.

Per Carl’s wishes, there will be no calling hours. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, June 28, 2025 at 10 a.m. at the Errol Congregational Church, Errol, New Hampshire with a Masonic Service preceding the service.
Interment will be held privately. Donations in Carl’s memory can be made to Errol Rescue, P.O. Box 64, Errol, NH 03579.

Arrangements are entrusted to the Bryant Funeral Homes & Crematory of Berlin & Gorham, NH.

It is with profound sadness we notify all of the sudden passing of a Past Master of our Lodge, R.W. Brother Homer R. Davis.

COLEBROOK – Homer R. Davis, 59, passed away suddenly and unexpectedly early on Tuesday morning, Dec. 31, 2024, after being stricken at his home.

He was born in W. Stewartstown on June 2, 1965, a son to the late Robert G. and JoAnn (Parker) Davis. He was raised and educated in Colebrook, and was a 1983 graduate of Colebrook Academy. While in school, Homer was very active in the cadet program of the Civil Air Patrol. He then attended the White Mountain Community College in Berlin and obtained a degree in surveying.

Homer worked for a year in the southern part of N.H. doing surveying work, but being a true Colebrook boy, he returned home. He always said that he had no regrets returning because if he hadn’t, he wouldn’t have had the family that he did.

He also worked for a time for a road construction crew, at The Balsams Wilderness ski area making snow, and for several years at the old NAPA Auto Parts store for Weldon Brooks and later Jim Biron. Following his time at NAPA, Homer took a job as an automobile salesman for Brooks Chevrolet, which later became Don Noyes’ Chevrolet, and where he worked for many years.

Freemasonry was important in the Davis family. Brother Davis was a 37 year Member of Evening Star Lodge No. 37, being Raised to the Sublime Degree of Master Mason on December 12, 1987. He served as Master of Evening Star Lodge in 1992, as well as serving as the Lodge Treasurer for several decades. For his dedicated service to the Lodge, he received the Major General John Sullivan Distinguished Service Award in Bronze in 2004. In 1994 Brother Davis served the Grand Lodge of New Hampshire as a District Education Officer for District No. 5 (now District No. 8).

Earlier in life, he was a member of the Jaycees in Colebrook, and later joined the Kiwanis Club in Colebrook, always enjoying the community service events that the club was responsible for. He will be greatly missed by his many friends and his entire family.

Homer lived life to the fullest, had an unforgettable and contagious laugh, and was always the person who could light up a room. He loved to be with his friends and family, and had countless friends that were also family to him.

He is survived by his wife of 29 years, Sonia (Cotnoir) Davis of Colebrook; twin sons, Robert and Richard Davis; a daughter, Brianna Davis; and a sister, Deanna “Dee Dee” Dion and her husband, Roger, of North Carolina.

Memorial calling hours will be on Saturday, Jan. 11, 2025, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Jenkins & Newman Funeral Home in Colebrook, immediately preceded by a Masonic Funeral Rite at 9:45 a.m. A celebration of Homer’s life will immediately follow at 1 p.m. at the American Legion Hall in Canaan.

Expressions of sympathy may be made to the Evening Star Lodge, #37, c/o Matt Smith, Secretary, P.O. Box 241, Errol, NH 03579; or to the Kiwanis Club of Colebrook, P.O. Box 241, Colebrook, NH 03576.

Condolences may be offered on-line by going to www.jenkinsnewman.com.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Jenkins & Newman Funeral Home in Colebrook
