Well folks, it's official - the Federal Government is shut down. Here's what it means if you're visiting Glacier National Park in northwest Montana.
Here's what we know:
-The park will remain accessible.
-Visitor centers and fee stations are closed.
-There is limited staffing for life/safety, garbage pickup and bathroom cleaning.
Here's what it means:
-The Going-to-the-Sun Road will remain open in its entirety (for now). If that changes, we'll let you know.
-With limited services, we NEED you to pick up after yourself. You bring it into the park, please bring it out of the park. (For example, there really limited staff to empty trash - haul your own garbage out.)
-Come prepared. This means you need to check the weather, pack layers, bring your own food/water and watch out for one another.
-Park concessioners are still operating. If you have a reservation inside the park, contact the company you booked with directly as your plans are likely unaffected.
We also need everyone to treat Glacier National Park - and all of our public lands - like the gems they are. Be smart, be safe, be considerate and help us keep it the Crown of the Continent.
