🐝🍯 What started with a few very special arrivals on our rooftop has turned into something pretty sweet: Tripp & Co. Pure Honey, collected right here at Hotel Indigo Columbus Architectural Center.

With the help of our local beekeeping partners at E’s Bees, our rooftop hives are cared for throughout the season - and the honey they produce becomes something uniquely connected to our little corner of Columbus.

It’s local. It’s a little unexpected. And it’s one more way we’re celebrating the community and neighborhood we call home. 💛

Because at Hotel Indigo, we think some of the best stories are the ones you can actually taste.

🐝 BEE SCHOOL IS IN SESSION: What exactly is happening inside those boxes on our rooftop?

Quite a lot, actually.

Each honey bee colony is its own highly organized community, typically made up of one queen, thousands of female worker bees and male drones - each with a different role in keeping the colony healthy.

Inside the hive, worker bees care for the colony, build and maintain the honeycomb, store pollen and nectar, and turn nectar into the honey we eventually get to enjoy. 🍯

And while honey might be the sweetest result, it’s only part of the story. Honey bees are also important pollinators, transferring pollen between flowers as they forage and helping many plants reproduce. 🌼

According to Purdue Extension, bees and other pollinators are directly or indirectly responsible for roughly one-third of the food Americans eat. WOW!

So those unassuming boxes on the roof? They’re home to a remarkably organized little ecosystem doing some pretty important work.

And eventually, some of that work makes its way from our rooftop to the jar. 🐝🍯

🐝 How do you get beehives onto a hotel roof?

Very carefully… and with a little help from some heavy equipment. 😂

When our rooftop hives arrived at Hotel Indigo Columbus, getting them to their new home required a slightly more elaborate move-in process than your average hotel guest.

The hives were carefully lifted to the rooftop, where they could be placed and set up by our beekeeping partners at E’s Bees.

It’s all part of the journey behind Tripp & Co. Pure Honey - local honey that starts with hives right here on our rooftop and eventually makes its way into the jar. 🐝🍯

We have a feeling these were some of the most interesting arrivals our hotel has ever had.
