🌟 Project Spotlight: East Park Reservoir Arbor Day 🌟

On March 7th, Colusa County Public Works hosted a tree planting event at East Park Reservoir (Lodoga side) where 28 Blue Oak trees were planted as part of a mitigation project tied to the construction of the new boat ramp. This effort helps balance improved public access with responsible environmental stewardship.

The Blue Oak (Quercus douglasii) is a California native known for its bluish-gray leaves and ability to thrive in hot, dry climates. These trees play an important role in local ecosystems by providing habitat for wildlife, supporting pollinators, and helping prevent soil erosion.

This event also celebrated the spirit of Arbor Day, highlighting the importance of planting and caring for trees to support healthy landscapes and sustainable outdoor spaces for future generations.

👏 A big thank you to everyone who helped make this event possible:
PG&E – Donated 28 Blue Oaks from Songbird Landscape & Supply through the Right Tree, Right Place Program
La Fortuna Panaderia (Williams) – Donated pan (Mexican bread)
Starbucks – Donated coffee
Lambirth Trucking & Lambirth Ag Services – Donated mulch for base of trees
Ken Cook – Pre-augered the planting locations
Westside Anglers Fishing Club – Provided 19 volunteers to help make this event happen

🌳Together, these efforts helped make the March 7th planting event a great success. Thank you to all that made this possible! 🌳

🌟 Project Spotlight: Creek Stabilization Project 🌟

Colusa County Public Works will begin construction in early February on a creek bank stabilization project along Salt Creek adjacent to Walnut Drive. The project will repair damage caused by heavy storms during the 2022–2023 winter season and is intended to prevent further erosion and protect nearby infrastructure. Work will involve the installation of gabion baskets—rock-filled wire structures commonly used to stabilize creek banks and slopes (see example picture below).

The gabion baskets will be installed using an updated design intended to better withstand heavy water flows and prolonged inundation during future storm events. Construction is expected to be completed by the end of February, weather permitting. Temporary construction activity and equipment may be visible in the area, and Colusa County Public Works will make every effort to minimize disruptions to the surrounding community
