You need to know the power of the Frio - and I’m not talking about the flow rate of our incredible river.

Today, between answering countless telephone calls and responding to 5 times that many texts and emails, lodging partners here in Concan collaborated and shared efforts to clean houses, respond to maintenance calls, check on the welfare of visitors, and coordinate multiple helicopter deliveries of food and supplies, which are still ongoing as of this posting.

There were no lines drawn - it didn’t matter which management company you were representing - or that we’re all segmented along different parts of the river right now because we’re trying to divide and conquer (and maybe semi-stranded) - we just all dug in and got the job(s) done. That’s the power of the Frio.

A big thank you to everyone we visited with today.

So many of you have shown kindness, patience, and genuine concern. Your grace and understanding as we work to care for our current guests, while providing those scheduled to arrive with as much information as possible, mean more than you know.

Please know this: every lodging operator here in Concan wants the very same thing you do—to see your family and friends enjoying an unforgettable trip on our beautiful Frio River. Right now, everyone is working incredibly hard to make that happen.

We'll continue sharing updates as we have them. Until then, thank you for trusting us, supporting our community, and keeping all of Texas in your thoughts tonight.

A trip to Texas Hill Country isn’t complete without spending a day at Garner State Park on the beautiful Frio River! In the warm months, this is one of the best places in Texas to cool off, spread out, and enjoy the clear spring-fed water that makes the Frio so loved. The park covers more than 1,400 acres in Uvalde County, with shady bald cypress trees along the banks, rugged limestone hills above the river, and scenery that feels made for a summer day outdoors.

Families can spend hours right by the water swimming, floating in tubes, paddling kayaks, or renting paddle boats while taking in the peaceful Hill Country views. When evening rolls in during the summer, Garner has a tradition that makes it even more special, as visitors gather at the old concession building for the famous jukebox dances that have been part of the park since the 1940s.

Much of the park’s early character also goes back to the Civilian Conservation Corps, which developed Garner between 1935 and 1941 and used native limestone and bald cypress in the historic combination building and dance pavilion overlooking the river. Beyond the Frio, the park has more than eleven miles of trails, including climbs that reward you with sweeping views over the canyon and surrounding hills. Whether you come for the swimming, the scenery, the hiking, or the music after dark, Garner State Park is one of those Texas places that feels unforgettable in every season.
