Today, HopeWood Outdoors celebrates Memorial Day. We remember those who served our country and sacrificed their lives. On this Memorial Day, we remember that part of our organization’s history is an intentional memorial for those who had served and sacrificed. During World War II, many congregations began searching for ways to memorialize sons and daughters who had served their country. Even before the war began, area congregations dreamed of a camp to provide faith formation for youth. The ideas soon merged, and the hope of a memorial camp was born. In October 1944, the task of selecting a site began. On October 24, 1948, Lutheran Memorial Camp was officially dedicated at its current site in Morrow County, OH. We hope you use this day to reflect and spend time with family!

We’re excited to share some wonderful news: the HopeWood Shores Shower House Project, part of the Growing Hope Capital Campaign, is now fully funded!
Thank you to everyone who gave, shared the vision, and supported this project. Your generosity is what made this possible. We are especially grateful for those who participated in last year’s Summer Shower house Challenge—your enthusiasm and support helped launch this project with great excitement.
We are now moving into the planning stages for the new shower house. Construction is expected to begin after the 2026 summer program season. This project will serve campers, families, and guests for years to come, and it’s a wonderful reminder of what can happen when a community comes together with hope and purpose.
Thank you for being part of this journey with us. On to the next project-- stay tuned!
