Here's the official word on the closing of The Beartooth Highway for the season.

Beartooth Highway will CLOSE on Friday, October 9th, 2026 at 2:30 pm for the season. This closure is due to incoming severe weather. We will see you in 2027!
Your route to Cooke City and the northeast entrance to YNP to or from Red Lodge, Montana will be WY296 (Chief Joseph Scenic Byway).

Not to sound alarmist, but WINTER IS COMING! ❄️

There are only a few more weeks until most park roads close to vehicles on Nov. 1 for the winter season. The only road open year-round to vehicles is from the North Entrance at Gardiner, Montana, to the Northeast Entrance in Silver Gate/Cooke City, Montana.

Until most roads officially close on Nov. 1, snow and dangerous driving conditions can cause temporary road closures. So, be sure to check the status of park roads before you venture to the park:

✅ Sign up to receive Yellowstone road alerts on your mobile phone by texting 82190 to 888-777 (an automatic text reply will confirm receipt and provide instructions).

Just a "HEADS UP" for those who still want to travel the Beartooth Highway this year. It will close for the season at 8:00am on Tuesday, October 13, 2026.

Update 10/7/2026: The Beartooth Highway will be closed due to forecasted winter weather on Friday, October 9, at 2:30 p.m.

🚧 Beartooth Highway (US 212) - MDT will be closing the Beartooth Highway at 8 a.m. on Tuesday, October 13, for the season. The pass may close earlier than planned due to weather or other unforeseen factors. Plan before your trip by checking 511mt.net.

As the summer season is winding down, so are many of our local dining establishments. For all our guests visiting during the month of October, here are the schedules of our restaurants and other stores. We highly encourage you to plan accordingly for your meals.

Miners Saloon - Dinner only 4:00pm - 8:00pm. Bar open later. Closed on Tuesdays. Last day for the season is October 10, 2026. Will reopen for the winter on December 15, 2026.

Cooke City Coffee - Breakfast and lunch from 7:00am - 2:00pm. Closed on Tuesdays. Last day for the season is October 5, 2026.

Bistro Cafe Restaurant - Lunch and Dinner Only -- hours vary. Last day for the season is October 3, 2026.

Wooka's Wild Eats - will be open throughout October for dinner, Thursday through Sunday 6:00pm - 10:00pm, and other sporadic hours. You can keep up on their page as well.

Beartooth Cafe - Closed for the season.

Cooke City General Store - Closed for the season.

Cooke City Sinclair - Last day for the season is October 15th, 2026.

Cooke City Exxon - open year round, but maybe with limited hours during shoulder season.

Log Cabin Cafe in Silver Gate, MT - Breakfast and Lunch from 7:00am until 2:00pm. Last day for the season is September 27, 2026.

Silver Gate BBQ - Lunch and dinner - noon - 9:00pm - Last day for the season is September 30, 2026.
