Taking a break from the BnB business until spring. It’s been a great year since eliminating Airbnb from my life! 😉☺️😆
Taking the fall to do some projects and travel!
See you next year.

I have removed the Carriage House B&B/farmstay listing from Airbnb. Too many people don’t bother to read the description, and then hold my farmstay to the same standard they would a hotel. Hosting is a LOT of work, and it’s very very frustrating when it’s not JUST not appreciated, but is insulted.
If you’re coming to my area to visit the Ark Encounter, there are now lots of choices for other places to stay. Please seek them out, as you probably won’t be happy with mine, which is more geared toward people interested in learning about the farm, my Swedish Gotland ponies, and other rare breeds. I guess I can sum it up best by saying mine is more a destination than a hotel. It is a real working farm.
If this is what you’re looking for, and if we can coordinate schedules, I’m still happy to have you. Happy travels.

Had a fun, impromptu visit to the Carriage House last night...and a FIRST! An old acquaintance (from the Sierra Club) arranged Sunday to come in on Monday by bicycle! Those of you who have been here know this to be quite a feat. He rode in from Carrollton, KY (about 50 miles) and left this morning for Blue Licks State Park.
All I can say is wow, Dave. I truly admire your ambition and determination.

He made me think about offering a special deal to those similarly ambitious.... if you ride in and out of here on a bicycle, you’ll get the carriage house for $50/night! Dependent on availability, of course.
We’re always bike friendly, and if you just want to stop in and say hi, or start a ride from here, as I think Dave will confirm, it is absolutely gorgeous biking here!

Ohmygosh. I hurt, I’m exhausted, and every fiber of my being is so fulfilled. This weekend I’ve had the best B&B guests ever. Kristen, Dale, Lucas, and Colleen have warmed my heart. Tolerant, flexible, helpful, appreciative, wonderful guests! It hasn’t been all hearts and roses. Woke up to a hurt/down sheep. Had customers coming to pick up a lamb. I’ve been on my feet for 12 hours, and it was so worthwhile! And mostly fun. Still not sure the ewe will survive... still don’t really know what happened to her. And they helped whenever they could.
But being able to introduce these folks to farm life has been golden. It’s why I do what I do. The smiles, the questions, the new experiences, so much appreciated. So much love. 🥰😁❤️☺️
This is why I do what I do.
And for some odd reason, I can’t post photos. Will revisit!

Guests here for several days having a “girls’ gathering.” I’m surprised that there aren’t more of these groups. And as a bonus, they’re horse people! But what’s driving me nuts is the smell of the homemade bread in the oven I made for them. (But yes, there’s a loaf for me, too!) Happy to have cooler weather which makes making bread more fun.

Another family of fabulous guests, from Brazil via St. Joseph, MI. What fun we had. It’s a bonus for me when guests choose to include me in their plans. I was invited to yet another magnificent BBQ, and Nolan and their kids had an absolute blast. Bonfires, fishing, s’mores, and CHESS! Happy Labor Day.

As I was preparing for guests this morning, Wendy the peahen and her kids were soaking up the sun just outside the carriage house door. She was stretched out just sunning and preening her babies! Note her foot stretched out in back. Funny they chose the concrete! And a Mexican sunflower.

I had such a fantastic Fourth of July, thanks to my fabulous guests! The family brought Anne-Marie here for her birthday, and I’m so happy they did. What fun we had! Hiking on the farm, meeting the ponies and sheep, and So. Much. Food. And sitting in the shade, sharing stories, conversation and cocktails. I love it when my business brings me new friends.

We’ve been busy lately! Thanks especially to Farmstayus.com for wonderful guests!

Farm vacations are well known around the world but not so for many Americans. While farmers markets bring fresh food to the city, farm stays invite guests to stay overnight in the country and experience the lifestyle - for a night, for a weekend, or more.

Sometimes there’s a bit of a spat over food... this was a cute one.
