Water temperature has raised a bit, now 84 degrees; Lake level is a bit over a foot low, which is actually good. Normally during this time, the water is cooling which gives us a second season on crappie. However, this year, that seems like it may come a little later than expected. Catfish are coming in with the winds and are being caught with the Danny Kings off our pier.

One morning, Ricky decided to try out a new bait he had concocted. It was a secret recipe involving peanut butter, kool-aid, hotdogs, marshmallows, and a hint of garlic. As soon as he cast his line, he felt a tug. Then another. And another. Before he knew it, he was reeling in catfish after catfish.
The fish seemed to be jumping out of the water, eager to get a taste of his bait. As the hours passed, the catfish kept coming. His cooler was overflowing, and he had to start piling the fish around him on the shore. Then his arms began to ache, and his back was sore from bending over to pick up the fish. Sweat poured down his face, and he started to regret his decision to use the new bait. “Enough already!” he shouted, but the catfish didn’t listen. They just kept coming, flopping around and making a mess. By the end of the day, Ricky was completely exhausted. He had caught so many catfish that he could barely move. He sat down on a rock, surrounded by a sea of wriggling fish, and sighed. “Next time,” he muttered to himself, “I’m sticking to worms.”
