šŸ Okay, letā€™s test our fall-color theory at another cabinā€¦

We just showed you the difference between late October and mid-November at Flying Squirrel Mountain Retreat. Now letā€™s head over to Ridge Top Adventure Cabin!

šŸ“ø These views were captured on October 19th and November 14thā€”almost FOUR WEEKS apart.

And once againā€¦ thereā€™s no bad choice. šŸ˜

October brings that gorgeous mix of greens, golds, oranges and reds as the mountains begin their transformation. By mid-November, the landscape has changed againā€”warmer, richer, and with more of those beautiful mountain views peeking through the trees. šŸ‚šŸ”ļø

Itā€™s another reminder that fall in the Smokies isnā€™t just one ā€œpeakā€ weekend. With changing elevations, temperatures and weather conditions, the show unfolds over weeksā€”and every stage has its own kind of beautiful.

šŸ Think you have to perfectly time ā€œpeakā€ fall colors in the Smokies? Think again.

These pictures were taken on October 24th and November 14th - three weeks apart. Two very different looks. And both absolutely beautiful. šŸ˜

Thatā€™s one of my favorite things about fall in the Great Smoky Mountains. With so many different elevations, autumn doesnā€™t arrive everywhere at once. The colors gradually work their way down the mountains, giving us weeks of changing scenery. šŸ‚šŸ”ļø

So if youā€™ve been thinking you'll ā€œmissā€ fall because you canā€™t get here during the last couple weeks of Octoberā€¦ donā€™t count November out!

Honestly, Iā€™m not sure which view I love more. ā¤ļø

She persevered through a childhood of poverty and never forgot where she came from.
She remained fiercely loyal to her East Tennessee roots, using her success to give back to the people and the mountains she loved so dearly.
She was kind. She was accepting. She had a beautiful way of making room for everyone.
Her faith was as big as the mountains she called home.
She believed in hard work, dreamed bigger than anyone could have imagined, and understood the power of education. Her Imagination Library has put books into the hands of millions of childrenā€”and that legacy is especially meaningful to me. Some of my favorite children's books came from the Imagination Library nearly two decades ago, and now I get to pull those same books from the shelf and read them to my nieces and great-niece. šŸ©·
Through adversity, Dolly remained hopeful and wildly generous. When Hurricane Helene devasted Eastern TN, Dolly not only made a two million dollar donation, but she showed up. She stood in front of her people, lifted them up and gave them hope when they needed it the most. šŸ©·
Through it all, she seemed determined to leave this world a little kinder, a little more joyful, and a little more hopeful than she found it.
What a beautiful example of a life well lived.
Dolly, you will be deeply missed. May you be at peace, reunited with those you loved and missed so dearly. And may your music, your kindness, your faith, your generosity, and that unmistakable joyful spirit continue to inspire generations to come.

Sometimes itā€™s the private feedback from guests that brings tears to my eyes. ā¤ļø

After the most recent micro-wedding at Heavenly Heights Mountain Retreat, the mama of the bride sent me this:

"You truly helped make our little girlā€™s dreams come true!"

Wow. šŸ„¹ā¤ļø

There are some messages that just stop you in your tracks.

When we first opened Heavenly Heights to small weddings, I knew the mountain views could provide a beautiful backdrop for an intimate celebration. But what I donā€™t think I fully appreciated was just how special it would feel to play even a small part in such an important day in someoneā€™s life.

A wedding isnā€™t simply a beautiful table, a gorgeous view, or a picture-perfect setting. Itā€™s a family watching someone they love begin a whole new chapter. Itā€™s parents seeing their little girlā€™s dreams become reality. Itā€™s memories theyā€™ll carry with them for the rest of their lives. šŸ’ā›°ļø

One of the greatest adventures in the Smokies is seeing wildlife where it belongs. šŸ»

This beautiful mama and her cubs visited Heavenly Heights Mountain Retreat last week.

What most people don't realize is that these cubs arenā€™t just learning how to climb trees and explore.

Mama is teaching them what to eat. They smell her breath to know what foods to look for. If she relies on natural foods, they'll grow up doing the same. If she learns that human food is easier, unfortunately, her cubs will too.

Bears have an amazing sense of smell and direction. They can smell a mile away, and theyā€™ll return year after year to wherever they find food.

Thatā€™s why all our cabins have bear boxes for garbage.
Every visitor has the power to help keep bears wild by securing trash and never feeding them.

The best bear is a wild bear. ā¤ļø

From the time of booking, she noticed that we support the local Isaiah 117 houses and provide donations to make the transition into foster just a little easier for kiddos. Her family thoughtfully picked out all these wonderful gifts to donate.
