🚂 A Little Piece of Cotter History…

Did you know that Cotter was quite literally built around the railroad?

Cotter began taking shape in 1902, as the White River Railway made its way through the Ozarks. By the fall of 1903, the railroad had reached Cotter, bringing daily passenger service—and with it came workers, businesses, hotels and families. In 1905, Cotter became the division headquarters of the White River Railway, helping turn this little spot along the White River into a bustling railroad town. 🚂

For decades, the sound of trains was simply part of life here. Passenger trains continued serving Cotter until March 21, 1960, when the last passenger train pulled out of town.

More than a century later, you can still see pieces of that railroad heritage throughout Cotter—and trains still rumble through town today. ❤️

This massive Eastern Cottonwood is officially registered as an Arkansas Famous and Historic Tree—and if you’ve ever stood underneath it, you know why it deserves a little recognition! 🌳✨

It’s just one of those special little pieces of history that makes Big Spring Park and our river town so unique. Take a stroll through the park, check out the tree, enjoy the White River and get a picture with one of Cotter’s oldest local celebrities. 😉
