BREAKING: Oregon Declares Mice Officially “Too Cute to Prosecute”

SALEM, OR — Calling it “a giant leap forward for rodent equity,” Oregon officials announced that fishing, hunting, or killing mice is now off limits, marking what experts are calling the most significant expansion of mouse civil liberties since cheese was invented.

Beginning immediately, homeowners finding mice in their kitchen must provide a written 30-day eviction notice, relocation assistance, and a small block of Tillamook cheddar to ease the transition.

Outdoor enthusiasts are reminded that accidentally stepping on a mouse while hiking may require a self-report, three hours of sensitivity training, and a handwritten apology to the mouse’s surviving relatives.

Meanwhile, campgrounds across the state report mice openly dragging away marshmallows, dog food, and electrical wiring in broad daylight while making direct eye contact with witnesses.

State officials also addressed concerns over hawks, owls, and eagles continuing to eat mice, explaining that “nature remains deeply problematic” and that negotiations with raptors have been unsuccessful because they refuse to answer emails.

A pilot program will reportedly begin this fall in which volunteer mediators attempt to resolve disputes between owls and mice through restorative justice circles. Early reports indicate the owls remain “unwilling to compromise.”

At Odell Lake, a coalition of local mice celebrated the announcement by chewing through three life jackets, a boat seat, two tackle boxes, and half a bag of trail mix before declaring themselves “an underserved community.”
