BREAKING: Governor Kay Ivey has ordered flags flown at half staff across Alabama to honor Cullman’s own Roy Henry Drinkard.

In a proclamation, Ivey authorized flags at the State Capitol Complex in Montgomery and statewide to be lowered on Friday, August 28th, the day of Mr. Drinkard’s interment, honoring the life of the 106 year old American patriot and entrepreneur who passed away August 23rd.

The Governor called him a statesman, a builder, a mentor, and a patriot, and noted he was America’s oldest living U.S. Marine. She praised his lifetime of service, from the Pacific Theater in World War II to decades of championing economic development and jobs in Cullman and north Alabama.

“All of Alabama is proud to honor the memory of this great Alabamian and great American,” Ivey said, “and we join his family and many friends in mourning his passing.”

A fitting tribute to a man who gave so much to Cullman and to his state. Rest in peace, Mr. Drinkard.
