🌿🌺 Turtle Pond Campground Flower Series 🌺🌿

Desert Rose (Adenium obesum)

Some flowers demand attention, and the Desert Rose is definitely one of them! With its brilliant pink and red blooms, thick sculpted trunk, and glossy green leaves, this unique plant looks like a tiny flowering tree.

Native to arid regions of Africa and the Middle East, the Desert Rose thrives in the Texas heat. Its swollen trunk stores water, making it remarkably drought tolerant while producing spectacular blooms throughout the warm months.

🌺 Did you know?
β€’ The enlarged trunk is called a caudex, and it stores water for dry periods.
β€’ Desert Roses love full sun and reward it with continuous blooms.
β€’ They make excellent patio and container plants.
β€’ With proper care, they can live for decades and become even more striking with age.

This beautiful plant is just one of the many flowers and plants you'll discover while strolling around Turtle Pond Campground. Slow down, enjoy nature, and see what is blooming during your stay!

🌼 Summer Color at Turtle Pond 🌼

One of the many things we enjoy about living in the country is watching the wildflowers change with the seasons. Right now, these beautiful Black-eyed Susans are putting on quite a show around Turtle Pond Campground.

Native to Texas, Black-eyed Susans attract bees, butterflies, and other pollinators while adding bright splashes of yellow across the landscape. They thrive in the summer heat and are a reminder that nature doesn't need much help to create something beautiful.

Whether you're relaxing at your RV site, walking around the pond, or enjoying your morning coffee outdoors, there's always something blooming at Turtle Pond.

Part of the beauty of living in East Texas is all of the native plants and grasses that pop up this time of year around Turtle Pond Campground.

This fuzzy-looking plant is called Rabbitfoot Grass, and it is starting to show up around the campground near the pond and open grassy areas. The soft seed heads almost glow when the sun hits them in the evening.

It is always interesting seeing what nature decides to put on display each season around Turtle Pond.

🌿 Turtle Pond Campground Flower & Nature Series 🌿

This week’s feature is native milkweed blooming around Turtle Pond Campground. These unique flowers are one of the most important plants for monarch butterflies and many other pollinators. πŸ¦‹πŸ

Milkweed plays a huge role in the East Texas ecosystem, and we love seeing patches of it growing naturally around the campground each spring.

Nature is always changing here, and there is always something new to discover on a walk around Turtle Pond.
