There’s something hopeful about walking through the garden after a long Upper Peninsula winter and spotting those very first signs of life. 🌱
This spring has definitely been on the cooler side, which means the soil temperatures are still lagging behind and everything is getting a slower start than usual. But nature always seems to find a way.
The garlic was one of the first things I checked on. Earlier this season, a few sneaky deer managed to get into the garden and chomp the tops right off several plants. I honestly wasn’t sure how well they would recover, but they’re bouncing back beautifully.
The chives are waking up, the rhubarb is stretching toward the sunshine, raspberries are showing fresh growth, and even the elderberries which took a pretty hard hit over the winter are starting to leaf out again.
Last fall, I spent a lot of time preparing the garden beds for spring, and it’s paying off already. There’s still a lot of work ahead, but I’m excited about the plans we have for the garden this year and looking forward to sharing parts of it with guests staying at the tiny cabin.
We’re also working on some exciting upgrades around the cabin property this season, and I’ll be sharing more about those projects in future posts. 😊
The season is already starting to fill with bookings. If a peaceful, secluded, out-of-the-way stay in a tiny cabin surrounded by nature and centrally located to some of the UP’s most desirable attractions has been sitting on your bucket list, this may be the year to make it happen.
