One of the most inspiring sights in the Black Hills—history still being carved.

We wanted to follow up last week's with an image from this angle. From the air, you can see the distance from finished grade to the edge is a significant amount of granite. As you start to see more of the Horse's Mane revealed, hopefully this gives some insight on the amount of rock (height, width and depth) that has been taken away.

A fireworks display will once again light up the sky above Mount Rushmore National Memorial on July 3, 2026, as part of the nation's 250th anniversary celebration.


Tickets are required to attend the July 3 festivities and fireworks viewing and will be allocated through a lottery on Recreation.gov. Applications can be submitted from April 8-12. Each applicant may request up to four tickets, along with either a parking space or shuttle service option. Lottery results will be announced on April 14.

Happy Native American Day✨

It most certainly is a special because the second Monday of October is also recognized as Native Americans' Day in South Dakota! What a great day to re-focus on the Mission of Crazy Horse Memorial® - the reason we are telling this story in stone - to protect and preserve the cultures, traditions, and living heritage of the North American Indians. The Mountain Carving is BIG, and will stand in this location proclaiming the mission for a long time. Yet the people that are impacted, and the ripple effect into future generations that is created, will be ever-present and dispersed throughout the world!

"As of October 1, 2025, most of the National Park Service units in South Dakota remain accessible and as open as possible to visitors, but visitor centers and some other services within the parks are temporarily closed or discontinued due to the federal government shutdown. Despite these temporary closures at some locations, many iconic experiences remain open and accessible, and travel is still encouraged to most of our national parks in The Mount Rushmore State."
