While the fires moved through our hills, and firefighters showed incredible bravery on the front lines, our team stepped in behind the scenes to support.

Long hours. Quick pivots. No hesitation.

In a matter of days, three seasonal properties were opened and more than 1,200 beds were prepared for fire crews and neighbors who had to leave their homes.

That doesn’t happen by chance. It happened because every single person here cared enough to make it work. Because they stepped in, stepped up, and did whatever it took.

It’s the quiet effort. The teamwork. The way everyone showed up for each other and for this community.

And it hasn’t gone unnoticed, and that’s something worth honoring.

The Southern Hills Family Resource Group is generously donating 20 pizzas for evacuees and the fire crews working around the clock to protect our Black Hills.

Pizza will be available in the Holiday Inn Express & Suites lobby at 5:30 PM.

To everyone showing up, lending a hand, and caring for one another during this difficult time, thank you. The strength of our community continues to shine through.

Our Best Western Buffalo Ridge Inn is offering rooms for evacuees. See the post below for details and please share with anyone who may need it.

For our neighbors in the Southern Hills who have been displaced by the fires, Best Western Buffalo Ridge Inn is opening rooms for local evacuees free of charge through Sunday.

The hotel is currently closed for the season, so cable, breakfast, and other services are not available. Even so, we want to extend our hospitality and provide a safe place to stay for those who need it.

There’s an odd group of people who actually love middle seats on planes. Bless them. I’m sure they call it character-building.

The good news? Once you land at Rapid City Regional Airport the middle seat is behind you, and the Black Hills are just a short drive away. Custer is closer than you think.
