🚨 FARMERS MARKET CONSUMERS NEED TO HEAR THIS.

I went to a major farmers market in Dallas looking to buy some potatoes and tomatoes.

When I pulled up, I saw a produce vendor I’m familiar with unloading a box truck. We happened to enter the market around the same time, and what caught my attention was the produce being unloaded in boxes carrying big-name retail/store branding.

I turned around and left.

And here’s why…

People go out of their way to shop at farmers markets because they believe they’re supporting local growers and getting produce that’s different from what they could’ve bought at the stores they passed on the way there.

Now, there may be an explanation for what I saw. But this is exactly why TRANSPARENCY MATTERS.

If you grow it — say you grow it.

If you source it from another local farm — say that.

If you buy produce wholesale and resell it — say that too.

There’s nothing wrong with being a produce reseller if you’re honest about it.

The problem is when consumers are given the impression that something is locally grown or farm-grown by the person selling it when that may not be the case.

People are trying to make better choices with their food. They deserve to know where their food actually comes from.

This isn’t about tearing down farmers markets.

It’s about protecting the integrity of them.

Because if I can pass the same stores, drive to a farmers market, pay farmers-market prices, and potentially end up with produce coming through the same commercial supply chain…

What exactly am I paying extra for?

Transparency over profit.

Know your farmer.
Ask where your food was grown.
Ask who grew it.

🌱 Don’t just trust the sign. Ask questions.
