Today, September 2, we remember John Ronald Reuel Tolkien, who passed away in 1973 at the age of 81. For millions around the world, Tolkien is the creator of Middle-earth, the author of The Hobbit, The Lord of the Rings, and a world that has lived on for generations. But his legacy was never limited to the stories he wrote.
More than five decades after he passed away, his books are still being read, his languages are still being studied, and Middle-earth continues to inspire millions of people around the world.
J.R.R. Tolkien may have left this world 53 years ago, but the world he created has never truly left us.
