Florida is warm, so pests are common. Besides having quarterly pest control service, there are a few things you can do to avoid them:
1. Secure your garbage bins and keep them clean. Wash and spray them regularly, and dump the dirty water away from your home if you are doing it outside. Only put bagged trash in your bins and make sure the bags are tied tight and not the type that tear easily.
2. Indoors, keep food in the fridge or sealed. Wash/rinse your dishes of food. If food/liquids (even water) drops onto the floor, clean up immediately. Ants love anything sweet like soda/juice. They hide in your walls and come out when they smell food.
3. Use organic/safe traps/chemicals (out of reach of children). Some products not only get rid of the pest, but deals with the source too. These ant traps will destroy the colony, when the ant travels back to the colony, after being exposed to the chemical.

4. Bed bugs are handled differently than other pests. An effective method is sealing the room with the problem and killing them with heat. 40*C will kill bed bugs in mattresses, picture frames, carpeting, bedding etc. Putting bedding in a dryer and running it is recommended. Professional help is normally required, and procedures will take 2-3 days.
5. Seek professional advice immediately, if the problem persists. Massey is the company that RP engages to do regular pest control as part of our HOA service. Their schedules by home grouping is published on Dwelling Live. Contact the front desk to request emergency service.
