As you plan your Orlando adventure, one thing to keep in mind is the weather. Florida is known for its sunshine, which is fantastic, but it can be deceivingly hot, especially in the summer months. Expect temperatures to soar into the high 30s Celsius (or mid-90s Fahrenheit). Make sure to pack plenty of sunscreen and stay hydrated, especially if you’re visiting the parks. A tip from a seasoned Florida driver: always have a cooler with water bottles in your car. After a long day at the Magic Kingdom, nothing beats a refreshing drink on your way back to your villa. And speaking of villas, having your own space with a private pool can be a game changer after a busy day—no need to share the pool with strangers! 🏊‍♂️

Navigating the food scene in Orlando can be quite the treat, but it can also surprise your wallet. While there are plenty of fast food options that are easy on the budget, don’t miss out on the local dining experiences. A family favourite is the classic diner experience—think hearty breakfasts with stacks of pancakes, perfect fuel for a day at the parks. And if you have a villa with a kitchen, you might want to prepare a few meals yourself. Grocery stores like Publix or Walmart offer everything from fresh produce to ready meals. It’s a great way to save some cash while enjoying quality family time. 🍽️ Just remember to try a few local delicacies; you won’t regret indulging in some Key lime pie!

Planning your driving routes around Orlando can make or break your holiday experience. The roads can get busy, especially during peak tourist seasons. It’s wise to download a navigation app that accounts for real-time traffic. The I-4 can turn into a parking lot, particularly near the parks, so consider alternate routes. Also, parking fees at the parks can add up, so look into park hopping options that allow you to explore multiple parks without the hassle of paying for parking each time. And here’s a cheeky tip: while it’s tempting to grab a breakfast burrito on the go, nothing beats enjoying a leisurely breakfast at your villa before heading out. You can whip up some eggs and bacon while the kids splash in the pool—now that’s a morning well spent! ☀️

Planning a family holiday to Orlando? One of the first things to consider is the weather. Florida is known for its sunshine, but don’t forget about those sudden rain showers that pop up in the summer months. It’s always a good idea to pack a lightweight poncho or a small umbrella, just in case! And remember, the humidity can be a bit of a shock for us Brits and Irish, so staying hydrated is key. You’ll definitely want to enjoy those long days at the theme parks, especially with the kids excited to meet their favourite characters! ☀️

When it comes to dining, don’t be surprised by the portion sizes. You might find that sharing a meal is not only practical but also a great way to save some dollars. And speaking of dollars, it’s wise to keep an eye on your budget. Theme park prices can add up quickly, so consider packing a few snacks to keep the little ones happy without breaking the bank. Staying in a villa means you can whip up breakfast or prepare a picnic for the parks, which is a fantastic way to save while enjoying some family time.

As you prepare for your Orlando adventure, let’s talk about driving. If you’re renting a car, remember that Florida roads can be a bit different from what you’re used to in the UK and Ireland. The speed limits can be higher and roundabouts are often less common. Familiarise yourself with the road signs and don’t forget that driving is on the right side of the road! 🚗

You’ll also want to plan your trips to the parks strategically. Traffic can be a nightmare during peak hours, so early mornings might be your best bet. Plus, parking at the parks can be pricey, so opt for a villa with ample space to avoid hotel chaos and enjoy a more relaxed start to your day. A little planning goes a long way, and it means more time for fun!

Lastly, let’s chat about health insurance. It’s essential to make sure you have adequate coverage while you’re in the States. Medical costs can be quite surprising if you’re not prepared. Check if your policy covers overseas travel and consider additional insurance if needed. It’s better to be safe than sorry, especially if you plan to enjoy all the thrilling rides and activities Orlando has to offer! 🎢

And don’t forget, if you’re staying in a villa, you’ll have the luxury of your own kitchen to prepare meals, which can be a real lifesaver if someone’s feeling under the weather. Plus, you can keep an eye on the kids while whipping up a snack. Taking some time to think about these things now will ensure your holiday is smooth and enjoyable.

🏰✨ LISTEN UP DISNEY FAMILIES YOUR STROLLER MIGHT GET YOU TURNED AWAY AT THE GATE AND I AM NOT PLAYING ✨🏰

Hello Florida local here 🌴 and I have watched approximately one million families show up to Disney World with the wrong stroller setup and get absolutely wrecked by a Cast Member at the front gate before they even see Mickey's ears. I am going to give you my best advice . Grab your coffee ☕ and read this before you pack the car.

🚨 THE SIZE RULE MEASURE YOUR STROLLER TONIGHT, NOT IN THE PARKING LOT 🚨

Your stroller must be no wider than 31 inches and no longer than 52 inches. That is the law of the land at Disney. Not a suggestion. Not a guideline. THE LAW. And in 2026 they are enforcing it harder than I have ever seen. Cast Members will physically eyeball your rig and if it looks suspect they will pull out a measuring tape like they are filming an episode of Wheel of Fortune. 😂

Pro tip: Measure at home. Include any cup holder attachments, snack trays, parent organizers, or that giant sun canopy you bolted on. Accessories can push you over the limit and they may ask you to remove them at the gate. Learn from the people ahead of you in line who are currently having a very bad morning.

🪣 THE WAGON SITUATION READ THIS TWICE 🪣

Oh sweet summer tourist. You saw that gorgeous Wonderfold wagon online or in Walmart. Six kids piled in, snacks everywhere, all the kids are happy and no one is crying. You thought that is our family. You bought it. You loaded it up.

I am so sorry. 💔

Disney bans stroller wagons entirely. That includes push and pull wagons and anything designed to function like one. Even if it somehow fits within the size limits, if it looks like a wagon, it is not allowed.

Popular wagons like the Wonderfold and Radio Flyer will not make the cut. Do not test them. Do not try to argue with the Cast Member. They have heard every argument known to man and they are unmoved. They are getting paid either way and you are standing in 100 degree Florida heat with four kids and no plan or a long walk back to the tram. 😅

The only exception? Stroller wagons are not permitted unless medically necessary. If you have a documented medical need, Disney will work with you. But my kids refuse to walk is not a medical diagnosis, unfortunately. Believe me, I have asked over and over

✅ WHAT IS ACTUALLY ALLOWED

Double strollers are allowed as long as they fit within the size limits. So you can still haul both your little ones in style, just make sure that double wide is under “31 inches”. Yes, that is narrow. Yes, it is doable. Tons of great options out there.

Things to look for in a Disney stroller according to those of us who have done this a few dozen times:

👉 Folds fast. You will fold and unfold this thing constantly on buses, monorail, and trams. If your stroller requires a YouTube tutorial to collapse, you will be that person blocking the bus door while everyone silently judges you. We have all been there. Do not be that person.

👉 Lightweight. You are already carrying 47 pounds of snacks, sunscreen, ponchos, and princess dresses. Your stroller should not weigh more than your toddler.

👉 Label it. Stroller parking at Disney is basically a sea of black strollers and yours will disappear into it like a sock in a dryer. Write your name on it, tie a ribbon, attach a ribbon your UTD something.

🛒 FORGOT TO PLAN AHEAD? DISNEY RENTS THEM 🛒

Disney World and Disneyland both offer single and double stroller rentals right near the park entrance. Is it the most comfortable stroller on earth? No. Will it get the job done? Absolutely. No shame in that game.

⚠️ ONE MORE THING NO STROLLER ZONES ARE EXPANDING ⚠️

Guests are starting to notice expanded no stroller zones throughout the parks. At high traffic locations, indoor spaces, and in some queues, you must park your stroller before entering. This is normal and fine. There are stroller parking areas all over the parks. Just do not leave your valuables in it. Disney is magical but it is still a public place with a lot of strangers. 😄

TLDR for the people who skipped to the bottom 👇

✅ Stroller: yes, under 31 inches wide and 52 inches long
❌ Wagons: absolutely not, do not even try
❌ Stroller wagons like Wonderfold and Radio Flyer: banned, no exceptions unless medical
✅ Double strollers: yes if they fit the size rule
✅ Rentals available if you need them
📏 Measure your stroller BEFORE you leave home

Go have the most magical trip of your life. Drink the Dole Whip. Cry at the fireworks like every other adult does. You earned it. 🎆🍍❤️

Drop your stroller questions below and I will do my best to help! Been going to this park since before some of you were born. 😂

Right then… let’s talk medical stuff in Orlando and Disney for a minute because nobody books a Disney holiday thinking “I wonder what an American ER bill looks like?” 😂🇬🇧✈️☀️

🏥 Healthcare in Orlando. My guide. My opinions. Probably slightly dramatic in places but honestly… not by much.
Most visitors here arrive here thinking:“I will just pop to the doctor if I need one.”
No. No you will not. This is America. They will hand you a bill so large you will briefly consider selling one of your children to Goofy.
Unlike the NHS, healthcare here is private and it is really EXPENSIVE. Like “how much for one plaster and two paracetamol?” expensive 💸💸💸
So before you fly over to wrestle a turkey leg at Magic Kingdom, here is my attempt at giving a reality check.

💼 Travel insurance is not optional in my opinion
Please do not cheap out on this. Honestly. Buy decent cover.
Make sure it includes:✅ At least £2 million medical cover✅ Pre existing conditions covered✅ Repatriation cover✅ Emergency assistance
One overnight hospital stay here can cost more than your actual holiday. I wish I was joking.
🚑 So what happens if you get sick?
Here’s the rough guide from someone who lives around all this madness every day.

🔹 Minor stuffCoughs, colds, rashes, sore throats, ear infections, mystery Disney stomach issues after your fourth Dole Whip 🍍
Go to:🏪 CVS MinuteClinic🏪 Walgreens clinics
Usually around $100–$150 and they can prescribe meds there and then. Most are on International Drive or nearby. Easy peasy.
The CVS ones are funny because you walk through the shop past giant bags of sweets, inflatable flamingos and suncream… then suddenly there is a medical clinic tucked in the back next to the shampoo aisle 😂
🔹 More urgent but not “call the priest” urgent
Things like:😵 Dehydration🦶 Sprains🤒 Infections👂 Ear pain🤢 Nasty flu
Go to an Urgent Care like:🏥 AdventHealth Centra Care🏥 CareSpot
These are WAY quicker and cheaper than the ER. Usually $150–$300 ish depending on what they do.
Honestly these places are brilliant. In and out far faster than most ERs.

🔹 Actual emergencies 🚨
Chest pain.Breathing problems.Broken bones.Severe pain.Anything genuinely serious.
Go straight to the ER.
Do not sit in your villa Googling “is my arm meant to bend that way?”
📞 Dial 911 if needed.
But fair warning…Walking through the ER doors can cost hundreds before they even look at you. Final bills can be eye watering beyond belief. Your insurance is what saves your tail here.
💊 Medication stuff
You can buy loads over the counter here:✔ Painkillers✔ Cold medicine✔ Allergy tablets✔ Cough meds
CVS, Walgreens and Walmart all have huge pharmacy sections.
But stronger meds and antibiotics always need a prescription.
Bring your normal meds from home because sorting replacements in America can be a total pain in the backside and surprisingly expensive.

☀️ The heat here is no joke
And this is the bit tourists massively underestimate.
Florida summer heat is not “Costa del Sol hot.”
It is:🔥 standing inside a hairdryer🔥 wrapped in a wet towel🔥 while a breathes gently on your neck
I see SO many people with heat exhaustion around Orlando every single summer.
Drink water constantly. Then drink more. Then some more again.
By 2pm some tourists look like abandoned rotisserie chickens wandering around EPCOT 🍗😂
🏰 Disney first aid centres are actually fantastic
Every Disney park has a First Aid Centre with nurses inside and honestly they are brilliant.
Quiet.Air conditioned.Helpful.
If you feel rough inside the parks, go there first. Disney staff are generally very good with medical situations.
📱 Handy numbers and places
📌 911 = emergencies📌 CVS/Walgreens MinuteClinic = minor stuff📌 AdventHealth Centra Care = urgent care📌 Orlando Health ER = serious emergencies
Orlando is still absolutely amazing and millions visit safely every year 🌴🎢✨
Just be smart. Get insured. Bring your meds. Drink water like it is your full time job. And know where to go if something happens.
I have added a picture of what an urgent care looks like. The CVS clinics are usually tucked away at the back of the store with seats near the desk.
Not exactly glamorous… but trust me… if you need one at 9pm with a screaming ear infection from swimming in the pool, it suddenly becomes your favourite place in Orlando

When planning a family holiday to Orlando, one of the first things to consider is the weather. Florida is known for its sunshine, but it’s also home to sudden rain showers, especially in the summer. Be sure to pack light, breathable clothing, but don’t forget a waterproof jacket or poncho for those unexpected downpours. It's always wise to check the forecast before heading out to the parks. Speaking of parks, remember to hydrate—Florida heat can be relentless, especially when you’re having fun at places like Disney World or Universal Studios. Staying in a villa with a private pool makes it easy to cool off after a day of adventures. Just picture the kids splashing around while you enjoy a quiet moment with a drink in hand. 🍹

Dining out in Orlando can be a delightful experience, but it can also be a bit of a shock to the wallet if you're not prepared. Meals at theme parks can be pricey, so consider planning some meals at your villa. With a fully equipped kitchen, you can whip up breakfast before a busy day or enjoy a relaxing dinner while the kids unwind in the pool. Plus, you can avoid the chaos of crowded restaurants and enjoy family time instead. If you want to try local flavours, don’t miss out on food trucks and casual diners that offer delicious meals without breaking the bank. A little research can go a long way in keeping your trip budget-friendly while still allowing for some memorable dining experiences. 🌮

One thing many families overlook when planning their trip to Florida is health insurance. It’s essential to check whether your current plan covers you in the US or if you need a separate travel policy. The last thing you want is to face unexpected medical bills. If you’re driving around Orlando, familiarize yourself with the road rules; remember, it’s still a bit different from driving back home. You’ll also want to ensure your rental has ample space for everyone, especially if you’re travelling with kids. Enjoying the convenience of laundry facilities means you can pack light and wash clothes during your stay. Plus, nothing beats the comfort of retreating to your villa after a day out, where you can relax and recharge in your own space. 🏡

05/12/2026

Here you go. This feels a lot more like a real person who has actually melted in an Orlando car park before 😅

Let’s talk proper fireball heat here in Florida ☀️🔥

Florida in the summer is brilliant. It is also like walking around inside a Dragons mouth.

You see the all photos online. Families smiling in front of Cinderella’s Castle. Perfect blue skies. Mickey waffles. Lazy rivers. What the photos do not show is the moment you step outside at 9am and your glasses fog up like you have entered a greenhouse run by Satan himself.

Honestly, Florida heat in July and August is no joke. The sun here does not mess about. It feels like somebody wrapped you in a hot wet towel and told you to go queue for Space Mountain.

But… once you understand how to handle it and combat it , you will have an amazing time.

💧 Hydration is basically your full time job

You are going to sweat from places you did not even know could sweat. Eyelids. Kneecaps. Probably your elbows.

Carry water everywhere. Not “one bottle for the family” either. Actual water. All day long.

Electrolyte tablets are absolute gold in Florida. Chuck one in your bottle first thing in the morning and thank me later. The heat drains you without you even realising it.

Little portable fans are lifesavers too. Walmart sells them cheap and Amazon will deliver to hotels and villas in Orlando ridiculously fast. Half the Brits over here look like they are directing aircraft on a runway with those fans by lunchtime 😅

🍋 How long can a British lemon survive outside?

Let us be honest here. Most of us from the UK are not built for Florida summers. We are basically delicate little lemons left on a windowsill.

If you are pale, fair haired, ginger (like me),or the sort of person who sweats carrying shopping bags from Aldi, you need regular shade breaks.

Thirty to forty five minutes in direct sun is plenty before cooling off somewhere indoors.

And kids? They are absolute lunatics in this heat. They will run around like tiny caffeinated meerkats until suddenly they crash. Make them stop. Even when they insist they are “fine.”

😵 Signs you are cooking yourself

If somebody goes quiet, dizzy, pale, clammy, emotional, or starts looking like they regret every life choice that led them to Florida… get them inside.

Cold water. Shade. Air conditioning. Slow down.

If they start vomiting or shivering in the heat, that is not “just a bit too much sun.” That is medical help territory.

👕 Dress like you are crossing the Sahara

Loose light clothing wins every time.

Black tops in Florida summer are basically self punishment.

Cotton. Linen. Pale colours. Big floppy hats. Sunglasses. Cooling towels round your neck. You might not look fashionable but neither does heatstroke.

🧴 Suncream is not optional here

SPF 50. Loads of it and I mean a boat load

Lather it on before leaving the villa or hotel, not once you are already sweating in the Disney car park wondering why your shoulders sting.

And do not miss sneaky places:
• tops of feet
• ears
• back of neck
• behind knees
• scalp if your hair is thinning a bit like mine 😅

Walmart is usually cheapest for suncream by the way.

🏰 Secret Disney cool down spots

The experienced Disney people are not the ones charging round the parks all day. They are the ones strategically sitting in air conditioning pretending it is “part of the experience.”

Magic Kingdom:
Carousel of Progress is basically a 20 minute nap in air conditioning. The PeopleMover is lovely when you need a breeze and your feet are threatening divorce.

Epcot:
The Land Pavilion feels like entering heaven. Spaceship Earth inside the big golf ball is dark, cool, slow moving, and there is at least a 40 percent chance Dad falls asleep inside it.

Hollywood Studios:
Frozen Sing Along. Indoors. Air con. Sit down. Lovely.
MuppetVision is another hidden gem for cooling off.

Animal Kingdom:
Beautiful park. Also approximately the surface of the sun by 2pm. Do this one early morning if possible.

🍦 Ice cream becomes medicine

In Florida, ice cream is no longer a treat. It becomes part of your survival strategy.

Dole Whip. Mickey bars. Frozen lemonade. Weird blue alien slushies. All acceptable.

Back at the villa we keep frozen grapes and ice lollies in the freezer and honestly they hit harder than champagne after a park day.

🌞 Midday is not the time to prove yourself

Between about noon and 4pm the Florida sun is in full attack mode.

This is the bit where smart people head back to the villa or hotel for a swim, nap, shower, or a bit of terrible American television.

Then head back out later when everything cools down and the parks light up at night. Honestly Disney after dark is better anyway.

🎢 Final thought

Florida is brilliant. The parks are magical. The memories are worth every sweaty minute.

But do not try and “push through” the heat to squeeze every second out of the day. That is how you end up lying face down near a churro stand questioning your existence.

Slow down. Drink water. Wear the hat. Reapply the suncream.

Survive first. Brag later 😎☀️

When planning your family holiday to Orlando, the weather is a key factor to consider. Florida is known for its sunshine, but it can get quite hot and humid, especially in the summer months. Make sure to pack plenty of sunscreen and light clothing for those long days spent at the parks. If you're visiting during the summer, don't be surprised if you encounter an afternoon thunderstorm. These brief downpours can be a refreshing break from the heat, so it's smart to have a light poncho or umbrella handy. One of the best things about staying in a villa is having that private pool to jump into after a hot day at the parks. Nothing beats a quiet evening swim while the kids splash around! Plus, having a kitchen means you can whip up a quick meal or snack before heading out again. Just think—no need to navigate crowded hotel dining options! 🏊‍♂️☀️

If you're planning a trip to Orlando, budgeting for food can be a bit of a surprise. While it's easy to get caught up in the excitement of dining experiences, the costs can add up quickly. Theme park meals are notorious for being pricey, so consider a few strategies to save some cash. Staying in a villa gives you the advantage of a fully equipped kitchen, which means you can prepare meals and snacks at home. A trip to a local supermarket, like Publix or Walmart, can be an adventure in itself. Pick up some bagels and breakfast items to fuel your family for a day at the parks. You’ll find that a hearty breakfast can help avoid the temptation of overpriced park food. Plus, with kids in tow, having a stash of snacks on hand can help ward off those inevitable hunger meltdowns. 🍕🛒

Driving in Orlando can be quite the experience, especially for families used to UK roads. Be prepared for the differences—like driving on the right side and the occasional roundabout! It’s usually pretty straightforward, but do keep an eye out for those cheeky speed cameras. If you’re renting a car, opt for a GPS or smartphone app to help navigate the sometimes confusing highway systems. And don’t forget about parking! Many attractions charge for parking, so factor that into your budget. The benefit of having your own vehicle is huge though; you can easily make trips to less crowded attractions or even local restaurants that are off the beaten path. Plus, at the end of the day, returning to your villa is a welcome treat. After a hectic day at the parks, a spacious living area and a private pool make for the perfect family retreat. 🚗🌟

05/05/2026

If you have spent any time planning a Florida trip, you’ve probably heard of International Drive. Or “I-Drive,” as everyone calls it. It’s one of the busiest tourist strips in Orlando, packed with restaurants, attractions, hotels, and more souvenir shops than you thought could exist in one place. Over 16 million tourists visit the drive every year and it’s about 11.1 miles long

But here’s the honest question people do not always ask out loud: is it actually safe?

Short answer… yes, mostly. But like anywhere busy and tourist heavy, there are a few things worth knowing so you don’t get caught out. International Drive sits right in the heart of the tourist zone, not far from Universal Orlando Resort and a short drive from Walt Disney World. Because of that, it’s heavily patrolled, well lit, and designed to handle millions of visitors a year.

You’re not walking into a rough part of town. It’s families, couples, convention crowds, and slightly sunburnt Brits trying to decide where to eat at 10 pm.

That said, busy places come with predictable issues

What You Actually Need to Watch For

1. Traffic… and lots of it, I mean a lot

This is the biggest “risk,” and it’s not crime.

I-Drive is wide, chaotic, and full of distracted drivers looking for their hotel entrance or the Cheesecake Factory they just missed. Crossing the road can feel like a bit of a gamble if you’re not paying attention. Toss in some drive on the opposite side sometimes

Tip:
Use crossings, don’t assume cars will stop, and give it a second before stepping out even if you have the signal. Be for warned they do run red lights

2. Petty theft (nothing dramatic, just annoying)

You are not likely to run into serious crime, but like any tourist hotspot, there’s the occasional opportunist.

Think:

* Phone left on a table
* Bag hanging off a chair
* Wallet in a back pocket

That’s the level we’re talking about.

Tip:
Basic common sense goes a long way. If you wouldn’t do it at home, don’t do it here.

3. Late night wandering

I-Drive stays lively late, especially around areas like ICON Park. You will still see people around at midnight and later.

It is generally safe, but the vibe shifts slightly after hours. Fewer families, more nightlife, a bit louder.

Tip:
If you’re out late, stick to well lit areas and main sections. Don’t go wandering behind buildings or down empty side streets. But even then it would be unusual to run into any trouble

4. Scams… the soft kind

No one’s pulling elaborate schemes, but you may get:

* Overpriced attraction tickets from random kiosks
* Pushy salespeople for timeshares
* “Deals” that sound too good

Tip:
Buy tickets from official sites or your hotel. If someone is being overly persistent, just walk away.

Areas That Feel Safer Than Others

Some parts of I-Drive feel especially comfortable:

* Around Orange County Convention Center
* Near ICON Park
* The main restaurant stretches (busy = safer feeling)

These areas have constant foot traffic, good lighting, and security presence.

So… Would I Walk It at Night?

Yeah, I would no worries. And plenty of people do.

But I would do it the same way I would anywhere:

* Stay aware
* Stick to busy areas
* Don’t flash valuables
* Maybe grab an Uber/lyft if it is to late and you’re a long way from your hotel

The Honest Verdict

International Drive isn’t dangerous. It’s just busy and I mean “BUSY”.

If anything catches people out, it is not crime, it’s the pace of the place. Traffic, crowds, and a bit of sensory overload.

Treat it like a lively city strip rather than a quiet resort road, and you will be absolutely fine. Don’t worry be happy and enjoy your holiday.
