With fewer than 2000 residents as of the last census, Davenport offers visitors something that few places in America can these days: a welcome dose of small town hospitality. Davenport is located in Polk County, in an area of gently sloped hills scattered amid the Atlantic coastal plain. The climate is classified as subtropical, which means that temperatures are warm 12 months a year. The summer is the warmest season, but average temperatures hover in the mid to upper 80s, making Davenport pleasantly warm but not hot. Winters here provide a respite from colder climates further north. Davenport's main attraction, however, may be its location near major metropolitan areas with water parks and amusement parks. It is not a long drive to reach Orlando, the entertainment center of Florida and the eastern United States. Slightly longer drives can take tourists to both coasts of Florida.
