Lodge Status

Howdy! My name is David Holcomb. As of Dec. 1, 2019 my wife Cindy & I began a “lease to own” agreement with the current owners, Kim & Mack Overby. I am currently managing rentals for the lodge. I just want to give a brief personal history & vision overview for the Lodge.

I have been visiting Down East since the age of 8 when my dad first introduced me to Cape Lookout National Seashore on a fishing trip to Portsmouth Island [North Core island]. After a few years of going to Portsmouth we shifted our trips to Davis Island [South Core island] and have continued multiple visits over the last 44yrs. Over that time frame I have developed many friendships in the Down East communities. In 2009 I encountered a divine appointment with God while on the island which began a transition in my career path from the secular workforce into ministry. From that point in time as I traveled to the ferry dock, I began seeing Down East from a totally different perspective. I had seen the “for sale” sign on the lodge and had stayed there a few times on “non-fishing” visits & I would “joke with myself” about how cool it would be to own the lodge. THEN, in Sept 2018 Hurricane Florence hammered Down East. My first visit Down East shortly after power was restored was with a friend from church to do “whatever” we could to help with needs associated to hurricane damage. in a short 3 days I saw a “typical roadside landscape” along Hwy 70 transition to a roadside landscape FILLED people’s livelihoods DESTROYED by Florence. That trip began a divine process that led to the current status of the Lodge mentioned above.

With all that said, the vision God has laid on my heart for the Lodge is for it to BE a ministry/missions hub for Down East. Through interaction with churches and residents, various projects have already been completed and more are on a waiting list. In addition to accommodations for Mission Teams, the lodge will be used in a variety of ministry aspects as they are realized.

As for accommodations, the Lodge will still be available for recreational/vacation rentals, HOWEVER ministry/missions will take priority and be given discounted rates. My contact information is now on the page. I current live near Statesville, NC and am commuting back and forth as needed but plan to relocate Down East as conditions allow.
